At the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026, Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines, delivered a compelling overview of the country’s tourism landscape, highlighting both its resilience and its forward-looking strategies in a rapidly evolving global travel market.

Speaking on the Philippines’ tourism priorities, Nograles underscored the country’s renewed focus on sustainability, diversification, and market-led promotion. With over 7,000 islands offering a wide range of natural and cultural attractions, she noted that the Philippines is moving beyond volume-driven tourism toward a model that prioritizes quality experiences, longer stays, and higher-value visitors.

Central to this strategy is the promotion of sustainable and community-based tourism, aligned with ASEAN tourism standards. Nograles emphasized that destinations across the Philippines are increasingly being developed with environmental protection and local livelihoods in mind, ensuring that tourism growth directly benefits host communities while preserving fragile ecosystems.

She also highlighted the Philippines’ growing strength in niche tourism segments, including Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE), dive tourism, eco-adventures, gastronomy, and cultural heritage travel. By positioning the country as a versatile destination capable of hosting both leisure travelers and global business events, TPB aims to broaden its international appeal and reduce seasonal dependence.

Digital transformation and data-driven marketing form another pillar of the Philippines’ tourism strategy. Nograles explained that TPB is leveraging digital platforms, targeted campaigns, and strategic partnerships to reach key source markets more effectively, while adapting messaging to changing traveler preferences such as wellness, authenticity, and responsible travel.

Importantly, she reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to regional and global collaboration, viewing platforms like ATF 2026 as essential for strengthening partnerships, attracting investment, and sharing best practices across borders.

Under Nograles’ leadership, the Tourism Promotions Board continues to steer Philippine tourism toward a future that is resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive—one that positions the country not just as a destination of natural beauty, but as a responsible and strategic player in the ASEAN tourism ecosystem.
