The Great Outdoors 2018 – Photo exhibition coming up in Bengaluru

To celebrate the Year of Adventure Tourism, a photo exhibition, on ‘The Great Outdoors 2018’ is coming up at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath from 10th to 12th December 2018 . The event is organized by Susheela Nair, a Travel Writer, Photographer and Director of Essen Communications.

Photos for the exhibition are categorized in to three- Aero Sports, Aqua Sports and Land Activities. There is also a section which showcases the adventure potential of Karnataka.

From among the photos received, the exhibition will showcase around 100 selected photographs on adventure sports, and outdoor activities. The highlights of the exhibition include the thrills, & spills of adventure sports, outdoor activities and offbeat adventures on land, water, and sky by adventure organisations, outdoor enthusiasts, amateur and travel photographers.

In the Aero Sports Section the photographs are all about defying gravity – skydiving in Seattle, hot air ballooning in Turkey, aqua para sailing, para jumping in Tamil Nadu, and sky diving with the tricolour Indian flag on Independence Day.

The Aqua Sports section includes breath-taking photos of braving the rapids in Nepal, jet skiing in the backwaters of Thirumurthy Dam near Udumalpet in Tamil Nadu. The highlight of this section are the stunning photos captured by Nanda Kumar MN and Dheeraj Nanda (the father- son duo), of the magnificent marine flora and fauna and surreal underwater landscape   in Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives and Philippines.

The Terrestrial Sports section features an array of photographs on the iconic Chadar frozen river trek, mountaineering in inhospitable spots in the Himalayas, bungee jumping in   Rishikesh, cave exploration in Meghalaya, camping, wildlife safaris, riding on bare-backed elephants in Thailand etc.

The offbeat adventures include muddy football match, skate boarding, highlining, slacklining, etc. The Karnataka section showcases rural sports like Kambla, off roading in Sakleshpur, sport climbing in Bangalore, highlining in Ramnagara, biking acrobatics, the spectacular air show, trekking in Coorg, etc.

The exhibition showcases photographs of 18 photographers – Aruna Chandaraju, BS Prasad, BV Prakash, Camp Splendour team, Dheeraj M Nanda, Dheeraj Rajpal, Nanda Kumar MN, Akhter Husain, Gaurav Shah, Harsh Patel, Kishore Ravi,  Padmanabh,  Poornabodh, Nagavetti, Satyanarayana C R, Shivvu KA, Susheela Nair, Vinayak N and   Vikas Kalagi.

Prizes will be distributed to those become winners in the event under various categories. Other than best photograph prizes, Certificates of Merits will also be given to those who comes second and third in each category.

Under Aero Sports Category, Dheeraj Rajpal M  bagged the Best Action Photo award for his picture, ‘Two to Tango’, Hot Air Ballooning in Cappadoccia, Turkey

Dheeraj M Nanda got the Best Action Photo award under Aqua Sports category for his picture –A scuba diver excited by a school of Giant Tavellys in Sipadan, Malaysia

In Terrestrial Sports category, Akhter Husain, Mangalore became first with his picture – ‘The Splash’, Kambla, Mangalore

Exhibition timing is 10 AM to 7 PM.
