WTTC predicts massive job losses in the travel and tourism sector in the UK
Nearly three million jobs in the UK – and 197 million worldwide in the travel & tourism sector globally – look set to be lost due to the collapse of travel, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). WTTC economic modelling conducted less than two months ago predicted this ‘worst case scenario’ would occur if barriers to global travel, such as quarantine measures and blanket travel restrictions were to remain in place. WTTC asks governments to invest in testing facilities at airports

The requirement that UK travellers returning from Spain have to quarantine themselves yet again for 14 days has been a huge disappointment for thousands of British holidaymakers. WTTC encourages travellers to use face masks in new “Wear to Care” campaign
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has called upon all travellers to don protective face masks to show they ‘wear to care’. As countries transition from lockdowns to reopening their borders, the wearing of face masks helps signal the return of safer travels, while also providing personal protection for users as well as those around them. The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has released the third phase of its ‘Safe Travels’ measures designed to rebuild global consumer confidence and reduce risk in the Covid-19 context. The latest focus covers the reopening of global attractions, holiday rentals and car hire companies. Protocols for the attractions industry were compiled on the basis of insights and frameworks developed by the Global Association for the Attractions Industry. Travel customisation, refund policies will be important for post pandemic travel, says European tour operator survey
Safety and health, insurance, cancellation and refund policies will be some of the important elements travellers will consider while a choosing a destination post-pandemic, a survey has said. Maximum flexibility and travel customisation will be the other factors that visitors will bear in mind, the European survey conducted by VIA Outlets said. It interviewed close to 1,400 agents and tour operators from Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands and Italy for the survey. WTTC urges all countries to provide financial help to tourism sector
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has urged governments around the world to provide financial help to millions working in the tourism sector who are facing tremendous economic difficulties. Governments must extend vital, interest free loans to global travel and tourism companies as well as the numerous small and medium sized businesses as a stimulus. Land of Origins: The next big thing in Global Tourism
Enchanting tourist attractions, unique diplomatic stature and a thriving airliner have placed Ethiopia, Land of Origins, on top of the world when it comes to tourism growth. According to the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) annual review, the country saw the highest tourism growth in the world (48.6), surpassing the global average growth rate of 3.9 per cent and the African average of 5.6 per cent. Ethiopia records largest growth in travel & tourism globally at 48.6% in 2018
Ethiopia’s travel and tourism economy grew by 48.6 per cent in 2018, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) annual review of the economic impact and social importance of the sector. In 2018, travel and tourism contributed BIRR 202 billion USD 7.4 billion to the country’s economy, an increase of BIRR 59 billion(USD 2.2bn) on 2017. The sector now represents 9.4 per cent of Ethiopia’s total economy.
