Palladium Hotel Group celebrated World Environment Day and World Oceans Day with initiatives in all its hotels throughout last week and a campaign aimed at raising awareness of the role that people and companies play in fighting climate change and preserving the environment. Emirates embarks on an innovative recycling project on World Environment Day
To mark World Environment Day, Emirates gave its old advertising billboards in South Africa a new lease of life, transforming the PVC Flex material into hundreds of reusable bags. In an effort to spread the message of sustainability and make a positive impact on local communities, the advertising banners collected from across South Africa, were given a second life – the heavy-duty, PVC Flex material was upcycled to produce school bags that were donated to students of Emfundisweni Primary School in Alexandra. ‘Guardians of the Himalayas’ to protect the mighty mountains
Though the government has passed a legislation way back in April 2014 stating that every trekker should bring back at least 8 kgs of waste per person including their own, the Himalayas are drowning in trekker’s waste. The legislation has not reached all who travel up the hill. Wildlife sanctuaries, eco-tourism spots to be plastic-free zones
The wildlife sanctuaries and eco-tourism spots in Andhra Pradesh are declared to plastic-free zones from today onwards. The Forest Department has decided to take up different activities in response to the theme — Beat Plastic Pollution — given by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. “We have decided to declare all wildlife sanctuaries and eco-tourism spots in the State as plastic-free zones. We are going to take up special campaign from Tuesday, including organising workshops, elocution contests for students and awareness programmes through films to trainee forest beat officers and other staff. India to host World Environment Day
India, all set to host this year’s World Environment Day on 5th June 2018. The decision was announced by Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and climate change, along with the United Nations Environment Programme Chief Erik Solheim. ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ was the theme adopted this year, with an aim to reduce the use of plastic, that cause harm to humans as well as marine life.
