Covid 19: National parks and wildlife sanctuaries closed in the country
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change has ordered the closure of all national parks and sanctuaries in the country. The ministry has asked forest officials to take adequate measures to prevent the transmission of the virus from humans to animals, including tiger sanctuaries, which will remain closed until further notice. The move comes amid reports that several lions have died from the covid virus. An order has also been issued to take the necessary steps to prevent the spread of the disease to wildlife. The centre has been ostensibly set up as a breeding centre for the endangered Rothschild giraffe, but now operates conservation/education programs for Kenyan school children. Nairobi National Park Acquires Title Deed for 2000 Acres
The government of Kenya has awarded a title deed to Nairobi National Park for the 2000 acres of Government land that was formerly known as Sheep and Goat Research Facility, which is adjacent to the Park. The title was awarded by President Uhuru Kenyatta at a ceremony at the Kenyatta International Convention Center yesterday. “Giving the title deed to Nairobi National Park enables the Park to secure the much-needed space for wildlife and is a clear testimony of Kenya’s commitment to wildlife conservation. India, Nepal, Bhutan plan joint task force to protect wildlife
The governments of India, Nepal and Bhutan are actively considering having a joint task force for allowing free movement of wildlife across political boundaries and checking smuggling of wildlife across the Kanchenjunga Landscape, a trans-boundary region spread across Nepal, India and Bhutan.
