Central Government to test new possibilities in tourism in India. As part of this, lighthouses in India will be turned into tourist destinations. The 65 lighthouses selected in the country will be converted into tourism hubs. The Central Government has already started efforts for this. West Bengal Tourism has joined hands with the TATA Steel Professional Golf Tour of India (TATA Steel PGTI), the official sanctioning body of professional golf in India, and Tollygunge Club to come up with a new golfing event- the Bengal Open Golf Championship 2019. Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkatta West Bengal Tourism Department is planning to appoint a consultant to provide detailed report on how to develop tourism infrastructure in the state. As per sources, Chief Minister Mamta Banarjee wanted to showcase West Bengal as one of the world class tourism destination. A National Highways Project worth Rs 1938 crore is coming up in Jalpaiguri District of West Bengal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the four laning of the Falakata-Salsalabari section of NH -31 D in the northern part of West Bengal on 8th February 2019. This 41.7 km long section of National Highways falls in the Jalpaiguri district of the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay foundation stone for three National Highway projects of nearly 200 kilo metre worth Rs 3,318 crore in Baripada in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha on Saturday, 5th January 2019 The projects include four laning of Rimuli-Koida section of NH-215 (New NH-520), four laning of Koida-Rajamunda section of NH-215 (New NH-520), and four laning of Singara-Binjabahal section of NH-6 (New NH-49). With an aim to boost eco-tourism in the state, the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation (WBFDC) is taking a slew of measures for the development of eco-tourism. It is also planning to incorporate as many as 15 eco-tourism centres spread across the state in its booking portal by January 2019. “We have chalked out an elaborate plan to promote ecotourism and also giving a major overhaul to infrastructure development in areas where we have our eco-resorts,” said Ravinder Pall Saini, managing director, WBFDC. The West Bengal government is considering the prospects of tea tourism in the state. The government has allocated over Rs 1,000 crore for the welfare of tea garden workers in the state since 2011, said the state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Banerjee, in a Twitter post on International Tea Day, said her government has also been providing 35 kg of rice at Rs 2 per kg to the tea garden workers. “Today is International Tea Day. Mayapur Iskcon Temple, West Bengal ‘Krishna Land’, same as Disney Land is coming up on Mayapur of Nadia District in West Bengal. It was announced by Alfred Ford, a member of the Ford Family and a devotee of Iskcon (The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, a religious group of Lord Krishna devotees). The project will be implemented near the Iskcon temple, with the support of the state government. With an aim to attract more tourists and promote tourist in the state, the West Bengal Tourism Department has recently sanctioned 89 trekking routes in north Bengal. “Measures will be taken to ensure safety of visitors opting to go for trekking,” said WBTD. Besides Darjeeling, the tourism department has discovered quite a few trekking routes in the Dooars region too. Lodges/small cottages are available along the routes for the trekkers. The tourism department is expecting that opening routes in Darjeeling and Dooars region will help in creating employment opportunities in regions that are socio-economically backward. പശ്ചിമ ബംഗാളിന്റെ പേര് ബംഗ്ല എന്നാക്കാനുള്ള തീരുമാനം സംസ്ഥാന നിയമ നിയമസഭ പാസ്സാക്കി. തീരുമാനത്തിന് കേന്ദ്രസര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ അംഗീകാരം ലഭിക്കുന്ന മുറയ്ക്ക് പേര്മാറ്റം യാഥാര്‍ഥ്യമാകും. ഇതിനു മുമ്പ് കേന്ദ്രം പശ്ചിമ ബംഗാളിന്റെ പേര് ഇംഗ്ലീഷില്‍ ബംഗാള്‍ എന്നും ബംഗാളിയില്‍ ബംഗ്ല എന്നും മാറ്റിയിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ ബംഗാളിയിലും ഹിന്ദിയിലും ഇംഗ്ലീഷിലും ബംഗ്ല എന്നാക്കാനാണ് സംസ്ഥാന സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ കേന്ദ്രത്തോട് നിര്‍ദേശിക്കാന്‍ പോവുന്നതെന്ന് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ മന്ത്രി പാര്‍ഥ ചാറ്റര്‍ജി മുമ്പ് പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. 2011 ല്‍ ബംഗാളിന്റെ പേര് പശ്ചിം ബംഗോ എന്ന് മാറ്റാന്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ചിരുന്നു എന്നാല്‍ ഇതിന് കേന്ദ്രാനുമതി ലഭിച്ചില്ല. എല്ലാ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെയും മീറ്റിങ്ങിന് വിളിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അക്ഷരമാല ക്രമത്തില്‍ വെസ്റ്റ് ബംഗാള്‍ അവസാനം വരുന്നത് കൊണ്ടാണ് പേര് മാറ്റുന്നത്.

The West Bengal government is renovating around 25 state-owned tourist lodges to make them three-star properties. It is a significant move from the affordability archetype for tourist accommodation run by the former government to one of ensuring luxury.   The estimated cost of the project is Rs 100 crore. “The room tariff will likely to increase when these lodges reopen in three months,” said Atri Bhattacharya, principal secretary in the Department of Tourism. Following the announcement of National Water Ways by the Union Ministry, the West Bengal government has initiated a project to enhance its river transport and tourism potential with a $151 million (Rs 1,021 crore) World Bank assistance. Rs 5,369 crore worth Ganga Jal Marg project of the Union Ministry will facilitate cargo movement along the National Waterway-I from Varanasi to Haldia. Accordingly, the state government aims at optimizing the potential of river transport both for cargo and human movements. 300 വര്‍ഷം പിന്നിട്ടൊരു ചൈനീസ് അമ്പലമുണ്ട് കല്‍ക്കട്ടയില്‍. ചൈനീസ് സംസ്‌ക്കാരത്തെയും പൈതൃകത്തേയും ഊട്ടിയുറപ്പിക്കുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നാല്‍ ചൈനക്കാരുടേതല്ല ഇന്ന്. കുറച്ചൊന്ന് പുറകോട്ട് സഞ്ചരിക്കണം ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനെ കുറിച്ചറിയാന്‍. 300 വര്‍ഷം പഴക്കമുള്ള വിശ്വാസത്തിന് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചത് ടോങ് ആച്യൂ എന്ന കച്ചവടക്കാരനാണ്.18ാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടില്‍ കച്ചവടത്തിനായി കല്‍കട്ടയിലെത്തിയതായിരുന്നു ടോങ്. 1718ലാണ് ആച്ചിപ്പൂര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചത്.അതായത് ടോങ് കച്ചവടത്തിനായി കല്‍കട്ടയില്‍ എത്തുന്നതിന് രണ്ടു കൊല്ലം മുമ്പ്. അതു കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ കല്‍ക്കത്തയിലെ ആദ്യ ചൈനീസ് ബന്ധത്തിന് തെളിവാണ് ഈ ആച്ചിപൂര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം. ആച്ചിപൂര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നയിടത്ത് ഇന്ന് ഒരു ചൈനക്കാരന്‍ പോലുമില്ല.പക്ഷേ ആ സ്ഥലത്തിനെ ഇന്ന് എല്ലാവരും വിളിക്കുന്നത് ചൈന ടൗണ്‍ എന്നാണ്. ടോങ്ങിന്റെ പിന്‍തലമുറക്കാര്‍ നോക്കി വന്നിരുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം ഇന്നിപ്പോള്‍ ഫാറുല്‍ ഹക്കിന്റെ നടത്തിപ്പിലാണ്. എന്റെ മുത്തശ്ശന്‍മാരായിരുന്നു ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം നോക്കി നടത്തിയിരുന്നത് അവരില്‍ നിന്ന് കിട്ടിയതാണ് എനിക്കീ ക്ഷേത്രം. എന്റെ മുന്‍തലമുറയില്‍ ഉള്ളവര്‍ക്ക് ഇവിടുത്തെ ചടങ്ങുകളെക്കുറിച്ചറിയാമായിരുന്നു അവര്‍ ആ രീതിയില്‍ ...
