Wayanad Tourism seeks new opportunities
The tourism department is gearing up to revive the tourism sector, which has been ravaged by stringent restrictions. Tourism revenues have halved in the last financial year due to covid restrictions. In the financial year 2019-2020, DTPC (District Tourism Promotion Council) received revenue of 7.09 crores, but in this financial year 2020-2021 its only 3.85 crores. In this financial year, Tourism centers were opened only in April. The income for that month was only Rs 48 lakh. DTPC reported a net loss of Rs 3.24 crore in the second financial year. The State and Central governments should support the tourism sector by offering moratorium on loan repayments for a period of 24 months, says Prasad Manjali, Director of Contour Group of Hotels & Resorts. They could also look at supporting salary payments of the hospitality and tourism employees, notes Manjali, who is also the Managing Director & CEO of Citrine Hospitality Ventures. He says the cost of property maintenance including basic salaries of staff, lease payments, generator fuel expenses and electricity was tough to deal with. Wayanad ranked first in implementation of Swatch Bharath Programmes
Wayand district is ranked first in the implementation of Swatch Bharat programmes in the country. It was acknowledged by the Central Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Wayanad scored more points as per various parameters to win the position. As per reports, eight districts from Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Kerala have implemented to programmes in an efficient manner, where Wayanad topped the list. Wayanad to be waste-free district soon
The picturesque Wayanad is all set to be more beautiful, with the hill station going to be made waste-free soon. The district administration, in association with three-tier local administrative bodies, is planning to make the destination waste-free. An action plan has been prepared by three-tier local bodies to declare Wayanad a complete waste-free district from January 1. The action plan suggests conducting ward-level waste-free declaration on October 21, followed by Grama panchayat-level and district-level waste-free declarations on November 14 and December 31 respectively.
