Unauthorized houseboats should be seized – High Court
The High Court has directed the Karma Sena to expedite the process of cracking down on unauthorized houseboats. The yard for seizing and keeping unlicensed houseboats in Alappuzha should be set up within six months. Justice N. Nagaresh directed the Kerala Mari Time Board. The order was passed on a petition filed by the Kerala Houseboat Owners’ Association seeking action against illegally operating houseboats at Punnamada and Vembanad lakes. Ending its three-round itinerary in central Kerala, Champions Boat League (CBL) is set to return to the state’s heartland of water-races this Saturday when Kainakary in this coastal district will host the eighth leg of the three-month event concluding next month. Celebrated for its scenic beauty, the Vembanad lake would be the venue for the nine snake-boats to vie yet another time for honours at the 12-leg championships being organised by Kerala Tourism. വേമ്പനാട്ടു കായലില്‍ അതിവേഗ ജലപാത വരുന്നു
കുമരകത്ത് നിന്ന് മുഹമ്മയിലെത്താന്‍ ജലഗതാഗത വകുപ്പിന്റെ അതിവേഗ ജലപാത തയ്യാറാകുന്നു. കുമരകത്ത് നിന്ന് പുറപ്പെടുന്ന ബോട്ട് 20 മിനിറ്റിനുള്ളില്‍ എത്തുന്ന പാതയുടെ ഹൈഡ്രോഗ്രാഫി സര്‍വേ പൂര്‍ത്തിയായി. ഉള്‍നാടന്‍ ജലഗതാഗത വകുപ്പാണ് പദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കുന്നത്. ജലപാതയില്‍ എക്കലടിഞ്ഞു പല സ്ഥലത്തു ആഴം കുറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതിനാല്‍ 40 മിനിറ്റ് വേണം ഇപ്പോള്‍ വേമ്പനാട്ടു കായയലിലൂടെ ബോട്ടിന് മുഹമ്മയില്‍ എത്താന്‍. ജലപാതയിലൂടെതന്നെ ബോട്ട് ഓടിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയാത്ത അവസ്ഥയാണ്. ബോട്ട് സുഗമമായി ഓടണമെങ്കില്‍ രണ്ടര മീറ്റര്‍ ആഴമെങ്കിലും വേണം. ജലപാതയുടെ പലസ്ഥലത്തും ഒന്നര മീറ്റര്‍ താഴ്ചയേയുള്ളൂ. ജലപാതയുടെ ആഴം കുറവുള്ള ഭാഗത്തെത്തുമ്പോള്‍ ബോട്ട് വഴിമാറി സഞ്ചരിച്ചശേഷം വീണ്ടും ജലപാതയില്‍ എത്തിയാണ് യാത്ര തുടരുന്നത്. മുഹമ്മയിലേക്കുള്ള സര്‍വീസിനിടെ പലതവണ ബോട്ട് വഴിമാറി ഓടേണ്ടി വരുന്നതിനാല്‍ സമയം കൂടുതലെടുത്താണ് സര്‍വീസ് പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കുന്നത്. മുഹമ്മ സ്റ്റേഷന്‍ ഓഫിസിനോട് ചേര്‍ന്നുള്ള ഹൈഡ്രോ ഗ്രാഫിക് സര്‍വേ ഓഫിസാണ് സര്‍വേ പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കിയത്. സര്‍വേഫലം ഇനി ജലഗതാഗതവകുപ്പിനു കൈമാറും. തുടര്‍ന്ന് എസ്റ്റിമേറ്റ് എടുത്തു ഭരണാനുമതിക്കായി വിടും. സാങ്കേതികാനുമതി കിട്ടുന്ന ... RT Mission to work on lake pollution by houseboats: Kadakampally
Vembanad lake in Alappuzha, famed for its ornately carved traditional houseboats, is the centerpiece of Kerala’s tourist trade. Pollution is turning the largest wetland ecosystem in south India, Vembanad lake in Alappuzha into a weed-clogged swamp, hampering the recovery of tourism in the region. Cleaning up the lake is vital to tourism and referring to this the Kerala state Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran said the Responsible Tourism Mission will lead the cleaning up activities of the lake. “The RT Mission will initiate various measures, including a ban on plastic in houseboats, their classifications and various other cleaning activities to rectify the situation,” ... February 2nd is considered World Wetlands Day. This day marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Each year since 1997, the Ramsar Secretariat has provided materials to help raise public awareness about the importance and value of wetlands. The international theme for World Wetlands Day 2018 is ‘Wetlands for a sustainable urban future’.
