UK Travel & Tourism sector may only recover by a third this year
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) says the UK’s Travel & Tourism sector’s year on year recovery may only claw back a third, whilst international travel spending continues to plummet. Latest research from WTTC, which represents the global Travel & Tourism sector, shows the recovery has been severely delayed by the lack of spending from international visitors. Birmingham tourism sector marks 2017 as the most successful year in history
The statistics released by West Midlands Growth Company and research body Global Tourism Solutions (GTS) shows that the city of Birmingham had a boom in tourism sector recording a tourist footfall of 41.8 million in 2017. The total expenditure of the tourists amounted to £7.1 billion, registering a growth of 9 per cent in a year. The average hotel occupancy recorded 75 per cent, same as that in 2016. Foreign tourist arrival exceeds over 13.4 % in March 2018
It was a happy news for the tourism industry, as the foreign tourist arrival exceeds to over 13.4 per cent more than that of the previous year statistics. Foreign tourist arrival for the period of January-March 2018 was 31.27 lakh, while January-March 2017 recorded only 28.45 lakh arrivals. According to a survey by LinkedIn, famous social networking site dedicated to business and employment-related services, had revealed that Indian’s prefer being happy besides health and money. New York marks record number of tourist arrivals
The city tourism bureau of New York City & Company (NYC & Co) has published a new record of over 62.8 million tourist arrival in the state during 2017. The new arrival is 3.8 per cent more than that of 2016. The data states that over 79.1 per cent tourist were domestic tourists and the remaining are from foreign countries. Abu Dhabi records tourist inflation in February
The flow of winter travellers to Abu Dhabi marked the highest hotel occupancy rate in February. According to reports, over 100 hotels in the capital city marked full during February. The Department of Tourism and Culture (DTC), Abu Dhabi revels that the figures excel with Asian countries of India and China with the most number of visitors. UK Freeze warning
BBC Weather has warned there is a chance that “just about anywhere” could see snow over the weekend and into next week as Arctic air spreads across Britain. Temperatures in the evenings are set to push the mercury below -10 degree Celsius in parts of the country. “There is a chance of rain, sleet and some snow throughout the day.” The Met Office along with Public Health England (PHE) has an ‘alert and readiness’ health warning in place across northern England. Elderly and vulnerable people have been urged to take extra care and to wrap up against the cold temperatures through the coming days.
Heavy snow: ‘Do not Travel’ warning in UK
The Met Department of the UK has issued ‘do not travel’ warnings as heavy snow storms hits different parts of the country. Drivers in Scotland and Northern England had been urged not to travel, as snow storms hit parts of the UK for a third day. “Snow showers will be heaviest and most frequent across western Scotland where a further 10-20 cm is likely to build up above 200-300 m with 30 cm possible over the very highest routes.
