Agasthyarkoodam trekking ban on women lifted
Photo Courtesy: Kerala Tourism The High Court of Kerala has lifted the ban on women for trekking in Agasthyarkoodam. Justice Anu Shivaraman has lifted the ban observing that there should be no gender discrimination in a place where trekking is already allowed. Earlier, it was the Department of Forest, Govt. of Kerala had issued orders restricting women from trekking on Agasthyarkoodam citing potential risks while climbing the hill. Two-month trekking ban every year in Tamil Nadu
The state government of Tamil Nadu has banned trekking between February 15 and April 15 every year in the aftermath of the Kurangini forest fire, which killed almost twenty tourists earlier in March this year. The rules have been notified based on an expert committee report on the Kurangini fire. കുരങ്ങിണി വനമേഖലയിലെ കാട്ടുതീയെതുടര്‍ന്ന് ട്രെക്കിംഗിന് സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്തിയ നിരോധനം കര്‍ണാടക പിന്‍വലിച്ചു. സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ ഇക്കോ ടൂറിസം പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് നിരോധനം തിരിച്ചടിയാകുമെന്ന് ബോധ്യമായതിനാലാണ് തീരുമാനം. ഇതോടെ അംഗീകൃത പാതകളിലൂടെ സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്ക് കര്‍ണാടകയില്‍ ട്രെക്കിംഗ് നടത്താം.വേനലവധി ആയതോടെ ട്രെക്കിംഗിന് കൂടുതല്‍ പേര്‍ എത്തുമെന്നതും നിരോധനം പിന്‍വലിക്കാന്‍ കര്‍ണാടക സര്‍ക്കാരിന് പ്രേരണയായി.

Kerala govt issues advisory regarding trekking
In view of the tragic death of several trekkers during the forest fire in the Kolukkumalai hills of Theni district in Tamil Nadu, the Chief Secretary and the Chairman of State Disaster Management Authority has issued directions to stop trekking to hills and also to ensure that all fire lines are cleared. In view of the situation, the state has issued 6-point instructions with immediate effect. No movement of members of public inside forest areas, without permission will be allowed. Kerala bans trekking in forest area
In the wake of the current forest fire killing atleast 14 in the Kolukkumalai hills in Tamil Nadu, the state government of Kerala has issued a ban in trekking to forest places. All the wildlife sanctuaries have been temporarily closed. The forest fire in the Kurangini hills of Kolukkumalai in Theni has affected the nearby areas of Ramakkalmedu, Pukkulam Hills etc. As the summer has set in, forest fires are a common phenomenon in the forest region.
