Ministry of Tourism promotes India as a holistic tourism destination
Key Highlights: Tourism Ministry provides financial assistance to States/UTs/Central Agencies for development of tourism infrastructure and facilities in the country under Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD Schemes. Assistance of Rs. 37.81 crore sanctioned for development of Trimbakeshwar in 2017-18 under PRASHAD Scheme. Promotion and development of Tourism is primarily undertaken by the State Governments/Union Territory Administrations. However, Ministry of Tourism under its schemes of Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD provides financial assistance to State Governments/UT Administrations/Central Agencies for development of tourism infrastructure and facilities in the country including Maharashtra. FHRAI seeks intervention of tourism ministry
The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) seeks assistance the of tourism ministry to find an amicable settlement of their dispute with online travel aggregators (OTAs) Go-Ibibo and Make My Trip (Go-MMT), and hospitality chain OYO Hotels. FHRAI has written to the Minister of State for Tourism, K J Alphons in this regard. It was informed by FHRAI in a media statement that they have written to the minister outlining the major issues of concern to the industry because of the OTAs’ unfair and arbitrary business practices. Yogendra Tripathi joins Tourism Ministry as new Secretary
Yogendra Tripathi IAS In a reshuffle by the Government of India, Yogendra Tripathi has been appointed as the Secretary, Ministry of Tourism. Tripathi will replace Rashmi Verma. A 1985 Karnataka Cadre IAS, Tripathy has been Chairman & Managing Director of Food Corporation of India prior to his new appointment as Secretary Tourism. Prior to his position in the FCI, he has served as the Joint Secretary in the Department of School Education. He has also served at various levels of the government at the State, Karnataka, and in the Central departments during his more than three decade long career.
Tourist Facilitation and Information Counter opens at IGI Airport
Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi – Terminal 3 K J Alphons, Union Minister for Tourism, inaugurated the Tourist facilitation and information counter at Indira Gandhi International Airport New Delhi, today. The facilitation counter is located at the T3 terminal arrival gates of the IGI Airport on 5th November 2018. The Tourism Ministry is also starting Facilitation Counters in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Gaya and Varanasi. Opening the facilitation center for visitors, which is first-of-its-kind by the Government in IGI airport, the minister said that this shall be of great help to the tourists visiting the country.
