The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the proposal for leasing out three airports, Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, to Adani Enterprises that won these in an auction last year. A total of 39 new domestic services will be operated from Kerala from October, with 23 of them from Thiruvananthapuram airport. The decision came in the wake of a meeting held by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan with CEOs of various airline companies. Air India and Vistara will have one new service each, Air Asia will have seven new services, Spice Jet will have eight and GoAir will have 22 new services. Privatization of the Thiruvanathapuram airport is widely welcomed by the stakeholders. It is said that privatization will improve the infrastructure facilities and quality of service. SN Raghuchandran Nair, President of Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of Airport Users Consultative Committee, said that the move will be beneficial to the tourism industry in long run. “We consider it as a positive move for the airport, which has been losing its galore in recent years.
