The flood waters have receded from most of the places, and, the Kerala government has taken up the massive task of cleaning houses and public places filled with slush left behind. The hospitality industry in Kerala, which is also hit largely by the floods, is joining hands with the government to help clean the houses. While Kerala has been facing the mishaps of incessant rain during this monsoon season, there is happy news for the tourism industry. As per the recent report by the online booking agency ‘MakeMyTrip’, Kerala tops the favourite place for tourists during this monsoon. Munnar Hills In an interactive session organized at Fortune Murali Park on Thursday, Kerala Tourism department invited Andhra Pradesh to visit the tourism destination of Kerala and experience its rich cultural heritage. The event was held as part of its tourism promotion campaign, and, the Kerala Tourism Department has showcased what God’s own country can offer. People of Andhra Pradesh are mainly interested in pilgrimage and cultural spots in Kerala.   In order to overcome the increasing competition from the private sector, KTDC has decided to have a face-lift. Last year the profit of KTDC disclosed a decrease than the previous year. It has reduced from 5.82 to 3.52 crores. Closing of 29 out of 40 beer parlours, establishment of GST and maintenance works in some of the KTDC owned buildings were the reasons for the decline in the profit, as explained by the authorities. Apart from development of tourism, at least some of them are showing profound interest in the sustainable development of the ecosystem. Thekkady Destination Promotion Council (TDPC) is such an organization striving for the development of tourism in the area, while taking considerate measures in conserving environment.

Yoga ambassadors endorse the possibilities of Yoga tourism in Thekkady. Yoga exponents from 22 countries were gathered together in Thekkady as part of the Yoga Ambassadors Tour 2018, organized by Association of Tourism Trade Organization India (ATTOI), in association with Ministry of Ayush and Kerala Tourism. Thekkady, known as the land of spices has attracted the yoga ambassadors in that aspect also. The yoga ambassadors were feasted on the massive sadya (traditional vegetarian meal of Kerala) meal in Thekkady at the Carmelia Haven hotel. The delegates were surprised an enthused by the potpourri of distinct flavours. The Sadya, prepared at the hotel, was a grand meal spread across on a banana leaf, with close to 24 traditional Kerala dishes. The all-vegetarian meal is one of the highlights of the Malayali harvest festival Onam. Followed by the successful implementation of Responsible Tourism in some of the destinations in the state, the RT Mission is all set to develop eight more RT model villages across Kerala. Also, the People’s Participation for Participatory Planning and Empowerment through Responsible Tourism (PEPPER), an innovative integrated tourism project of the RT Mission that ensures whole-hearted participation of the people in the particular locality, will be extended to 10 more centres. Kerala recorded the highest number of tourism arrivals in the past nine-year period, with a 10.94 per cent rise compared with the figures of last year. An increase of 15.54 lakh new tourists – domestic and foreign travellers combined – was recorded this year, with footfalls going up to 1,57,65,390 in 2017, as against 1,42,10,954 in 2016.
