Thailand has witnessed a 2.13 per cent increase in tourist arrivals in September compared to the same period last year.  “The number of Chinese visitors declined for three consecutive months,” said the Tourism Ministry in a statement. There were 2.66 million foreign tourists in September, which helped generate ฿140 billion (RM17 billion), said the statement. Tourists from East Asia accounted for about 73 per cent of all arrivals. However, the number of Chinese tourists in September dropped by almost 15% from a year earlier. The number has been declining since a boat accident in July, which killed 47 Chinese visitors. ... Maya Beach – crowded with tourists and speed boats Maya Bay, on Phi Phi Leh island in the Andaman Sea of Thailand, which was the set for the Hollywood film ‘The Beach’, has closed indefinitely to give its ecosystem to recover. The beach has become famous after the shooting of the film acted by Leonardo DiCaprio. It is estimated that around 6,000 tourists visited the beach every day, traversing in speedboat from the nearby resort islands of PhiPhi and Phuket and Krabi on the mainland. Thailand Tourism is all set to expand through next year, with at least 10 per cent growth in the revenue from this year, fetching some 3.4 trillion baht. “Strong growth is anticipated from both the international and domestic markets. Next year, the international market should generate income of B2.28 trillion, while the domestic market should contribute B1.12 trillion,” said Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Yuthasak Supasorn. It was a happy news for the tourism industry, as the foreign tourist arrival exceeds to over 13.4 per cent more than that of the previous year statistics. Foreign tourist arrival for the period of January-March 2018 was 31.27 lakh, while January-March 2017 recorded only 28.45 lakh arrivals. Visitors from China surged to a record 1.2 million in February, swelled by the Lunar New Year holiday period. Thailand expects 38 million tourists overall this year, more than 10 million from China. China’s outbound travel market raked up 130 million trips in 2017, a 7 per cent increase on 122 million trips recorded in 2016. Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the 33rd edition of ‘AAHAR 2018’, a 4-day event on International Food and Hospitality at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The event is organised by India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), in association with Agricultural Processed Food Products Development Authority (APEDA), and Ministry of Food Processing Industries. China, the most populous country in the world, had around 130 million outbound travellers in 2017, according to reports published by China’s prominent travel expert, Ctrip and China Tourism Academy. Tourists from China had spent around 111.5 billion US dollars for their holidays, that was 5 per cent more while comparing with the data from 2016.
