  Tourism has been one of the major revenue earners of Uttarakhand, the northern state of India. The state government is optimistic about the future of the state through development in the tourism sector. “The tourism sector has the potential to create jobs. As part of their mega ‘Destination Uttaraghand’ programme, the state government is planning various events to attract investment for the development of the state, especially in the tourism sector. An Investors Summit is scheduled in Dehradun on 4th and 5th October 2018. It will organize sector-specific Mini Investors Conclaves in different parts of the State in August. Out of the four Mini Conclaves, two conclaves specific to tourism sector will be held in Tehri and Nainital on August 7 and August 10 respectively. The tourism department of Dehradun has decided to hold a mini conclave on tourism and wellness industry in Tehri on August 7, ahead of its investors meet. The two-day Investor Summit will be held in October. It was decided that four mini conclaves would be organised by the State Government in Tehri, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Haridwar. In Tehri – Wellness and Tourism Conclave; in Udham Singh Nagar – Food Processing and Auto Conclave; in Nainital – Film Shooting and Tourism Conclave and in Haridwar – Ayurveda, Herbal, Aromatic and AYUSH Conclave would be organised. The Uttarakhand cabinet followed a unique way to promote its tourism, as they met for the first time in a floating restaurant on the charming Tehri Lake. The ministers headed by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat met inside ‘Floating Marina’, the boat which served as the restaurant in the middle of the lake. The cabinet approved 12 decisions during the meeting which will enhance the state’s tourism and aid better use of natural resources. The much awaited 3-day water sports and cultural event, the Tehri Lake festival, is scheduled to be held from 25 to 27 May 2018. The lake festival, which is organized by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB), will have hosts of activities and events including water and aerial sports.
