Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), which runs 165 hotels across the Taj, Vivanta and Ginger brands, is the latest hospitality major which is coming out to join the protest against the use of plastic straws. അന്തരീക്ഷ മലിനീകരണം കാരണം താജ്മഹലിന്‍റെ നിറം മാറുന്നതിൽ ആശങ്ക പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ച് സുപ്രീംകോടതി. ആദ്യം താജ്മഹൽ മഞ്ഞ നിറമായി. ഇപ്പോഴത് തവിട്ടും പച്ചയുമായി– സുപ്രീംകോടതി നിരീക്ഷിച്ചു. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിന്നും വിദേശത്തു നിന്നുമുള്ള വിദഗ്ധരുടെ സേവനം ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തി താജ് മഹലിനുണ്ടായ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ പഠിക്കണം. ലോകാദ്ഭുതങ്ങളിലൊന്നായ ഈ മഹാസൗധം സംരക്ഷിച്ചു നിർത്തണമെന്നും സുപ്രീംകോടതി ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. ഇതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട വിദഗ്ധരുണ്ടോയെന്നറിയില്ല. ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽത്തന്നെ കേന്ദ്രം അവരെ ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തുന്നില്ല. അതിനെപ്പറ്റി ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നതു പോലുമില്ല– ജസ്റ്റിസുമാരായ എംബി ലോകുറിന്‍റെയും ദീപക് ഗുപ്തയുടെയും ബെഞ്ച് വിമർശിച്ചു. സർക്കാരിനെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിച്ച അഡിഷനൽ സോളിസിറ്റൽ ജനറൽ എഎൽഎസ് നഡ്കർണിയ്ക്ക് താജ്മഹലിന്‍റെ ഫോട്ടോകൾ കാണിച്ചായിരുന്നു ‘എന്തുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഈ നിറംമാറ്റമെന്ന’ ചോദ്യം സുപ്രീംകോടതി ഉന്നയിച്ചത്. പരിസ്ഥിതി പ്രവർത്തകൻ എംസി മേത്തയാണ് ഇതു സംബന്ധിച്ച ഹർജി നൽകിയത്. ആര്‍ക്കിയോളജിക്കൽ സർവേ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്കാണു താജ് മഹലിന്‍റെ സംരക്ഷണ ചുമതല. ഹർജി കൂടുതൽ വാദത്തിനായി ഈ മാസം ഒമ്പതിലേക്കു മാറ്റി.

Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) that runs the Taj brand of luxury hotels, entered into Saudi Arabia with a 340-keys property in Makkah. IHCL, in partnership with Umm Al Qura Development and Construction Company, will open the hotel in January 2023 in the tony King Abdul Aziz Road (KAAR) project, one of the largest urban rejuvenation projects in Makkah.
