Roger Federer, the legendary tennis player of Switzerland, is now the official brand ambassador of Switzerland Tourism. The long-term agreement between the Swiss National Tourism Board and Roger Federer aims to attract tourists. This cooperation will be of great benefit in this day and age of the greatest crisis facing the tourism industry since World War II. Switzerland’s tourism in trouble, pins hope on Asian travellers
According to a study by HES-SO Valais institute, Swiss tourism could lose up to CHF8.7 billion ($9.2 billion) in 2020, pushing almost a quarter of businesses to the brink of bankruptcy. “The effects in the short term are already terrible,” says Véronique Kanel, spokesperson for Swiss Tourism, the organisation responsible for promoting Switzerland’s tourism industry. “And the forecasts for summer remain very cautious, with an occupancy rate of 24% for the hotel sector and 42% for other holiday accommodation.” The impact is expected to vary from region to region across the country, according to a report by Swiss Info. ‘Ranveer on Tour’ train in Switzerland
Bollywood heartthrob Ranveer Singh, Switzerland’s ambassador in India, has inaugurated a train named ‘Ranveer on Tour’ in Switzerland. Ranveer has managed to turn around 25 per cent growth rate in the overnights in the Alpine nation, that drove Indian tourists to Switzerland. The train was launched on 30th April by Switzerland Tourism and the Swiss Travel System. The country said it wants to continue with Ranveer Singh on board in 2018 and is looking forward to that. Switzerland to tap medical tourism
Swiss National Park Swiss Tourism board is looking at the strong potential in medical tourism, and is eying UAE as a source market for medical tourism to Switzerland. “At the moment, it’s (medical tourism) less than 10 per cent of total visits to Switzerland. That’s why we see so much potential and opportunity to grow.
