In an effort to ramp up Indian outbound tourists visiting Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Tourism in collaboration with SriLankan Airlines, The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) and inbound tour operators has introduced attractive packages, specifically targeting India, the number one source market, to revive the industry that had a temporary setback due to the recent incident. The package offered includes discounted airfare, accommodation, transport and more, ranging from 30 per cent to 60 per cent. Sri Lanka’s terror-hit Shangri-La Hotel reopens
Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo has partially reopened on June 12, seven weeks after the property was attacked by a suicide bomber on Easter Sunday. The Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo was one of three hotels hit by the suicide attacks on April 21 and suffered extensive damages. Sri Lanka cancels on-arrival visa for tourists from 39 countries
Sri Lanka’s Tourism Ministry said that it has kept its new visa-on-arrival programme on hold until further notice due to the security situation in the island nation following the Easter Sunday bombings. Sri Lanka tourist arrivals up by 4.7 per cent in March
Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals are up 4.7 per cent in March 2019 compared to the same period last year, according to the data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). Around 244,328 tourists arrived in the country in March 2019 compared to the 233,382 arrivals in March 2018. India, United Kingdom, China, Germany and France were Sri Lanka’s top five international tourist generating markets in March this year. Sri Lanka’s tourist arrival grows 7% in February
Tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka posts a 7 per cent growth in February 2019, with over 250,000 tourists arriving in the destination. The top five international tourist-generating markets are India, Britain, China, France and Germany. Russia and the United States also recorded a significant growth in the last month. About 28,039 out of 252,033 tourists arrivals were from China in February, informed the Tourism ministry of Sri Lanka. Thai Lion Air will begin direct flights between Sri Lanka and Bangkok from January 30, 2019.
