Covid damage: Tourism body in Kerala to observe Black Day on May 1
A second wave of Covid-19 and the ensuing restrictions can eliminate the tourism sector in Kerala, the industry’s captains and workers fear, announcing they will observe May 1 as Black Day to press the state government to resolve the grave issue. The Tourism Samrakshana Samithi, while noting that the segment was struggling even amid a stimulus package from the government, said the future looked bleaker with the prospects of massive job loss and shutdown of allied businesses. SKHF seeks extension of moratorium on bank loans, payment of electricity charges as per actual usage
The South Kerala Hoteliers’ Forum (SKHF) has written to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan urging him to request the concerned authorities to extend the moratorium on bank loans to a period of 12 months from March this year. RBI had granted moratorium for only a period of three months. Interest during the period should also be waived off, SKHF stated in the letter. These benefits should be made available to all accounts irrespective of whether the account is regular or whether instalments are overdue for payment, as of February this year. SKHF urges CM to help hotel industry tide over crisis
The South Kerala Hoteliers’ Forum (SKHF) has urged the state government to advise departments like KSEB, KWA, tax departments and the Thiruvananthapuram corporation to grant hoteliers a deferred payment schedule that would give them relief for a minimum period of six months. With the corona virus spreading rapidly across the globe, the various hotels have been hit hard by cancellation of bookings. SKHF has requested for a GST waiver for a one-year period, as a relief measure. South India Travel Expo (SITE) gets postponed
The South Kerala Hoteliers Forum (SKHF) has decided to postpone the South India Travel Expo 2020 (SITE), due to public health concerns arising out of the corona virus outbreak. “While it is indeed a big disappointment for all of us at SITE and the rest of the tourism industry in India, we have chosen to take this decision duly considering the safety of our exhibitors, buyers, visitors and other stakeholders,” SITE said in a press release.
