New road between Sikkim and Nepal to promote tourism and trade
Photo Courtesy: The Telegraph The Sikkim government is constructing a road from Uttarey in West Sikkim to Chiwa Bhanjyang in Nepal. The road coming up is at an altitude of about 10,500 feet from sea level. This will be the first road link between Sikkim and Nepal which share almost 100 Km long common border. Nepal already has a road connecting Chiwa Bhanjyang, which is an antiquated village and a popular tourist place. Sikkim bags ‘Best Eco Tourism Destination’ Award
Sikkim Tourism has bagged an award for “Best Eco-Tourism Destination” from the North-East together with the Tourism Department of Meghalaya at the recently concluded Travel & Tourism Fair (TTF). The three days long TTF, India’s largest travel trade show, took place in Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata (West Bengal). The award was received by the Special Secretary, Namrata Thapa and Joint Director, M K Pradhan from the hands of the Chairman-cum-CEO, Fairfest Media Pvt. Darjeeling, Sikkim optimistic of upcoming tourist season
World renowned tourist destinations of eastern Himalayas, Dareeling and Sikkim awaits a positive festive season with large portion of its capacity already booked even four months before the beginning of season. Sikkim lauds Union Ministry’s proposal to lift tourist restrictions
The Sikkim government and tourism stakeholders of Himalayan state has wholeheartedly welcomed the Union tourism ministry’s proposal to lift the restrictions on foreign tourists who loves to travel to Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Sikkim. Union Tourism Minister KJ Alphons and his ministry proposed the plan when they had a meeting with senior Union home and defence ministry officers last week. The restriction will be lifted only if the home and defence minister give nod to the plan.
