Shillong gets canopy walkway, log houses to attract tourists
Shillong now has another tourism attraction in arsenal. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has inaugurated a set of Orchid Log Houses overlooking the beautiful hills of Mawdiangdiang. The tourism project is funded under the Swadesh Darshan initiative of the Ministry of Tourism. Mawdiangdiang is located 6 km from Shillong towards the east. The Meghalaya government expects that the canopy walkway and the log houses will be a sought-after tourist attraction even as the state is planning to formulate a novel tourism strategy to attract high-end domestic tourists. Meghalaya’s inbound tourism recorded 80 per cent growth in a decade
Tathagata Roy, Meghalaya Governer, said that various government initiatives and the hospitality of locals have attracted more tourists to the state from other parts of India and abroad. He was delivering his speech in the state Assembly on the first day of budget. “Meghalaya Tourism has witnessed a massive inflow of both international and domestic tourists in the last ten years. Cherry Blossom Festival of Shillong kick started
The India International Cherry Blossom Festival 2018, celebrating the unique autumn flowering of Himalayan Cherry Blossoms kick started in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, with several cultural events. Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya inaugurated the event at Polo 5th Ground (Dalang Open Stage) on Wednesday. DC enforces plastic ban in East Khasi Hills
Aiming at making the tourist destinations in the district clean and presentable, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills has issued an order prohibiting the use of polythene bags with a thickness of less than 40 microns in the district. The objective is to restraint the spread of plastic wastes in all tourist destinations in the district. This order comes into force with immediate effect. The order has been issued in the light of reports received from different sectors that indiscriminate disposal of used plastic in various forms is profusely taking place in tourist spots within the district. Meghalaya moots for homestay tourism
Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has organized a training programme on homestay tourism on Wednesday, 18th July 2018, for the women in Meghalaya with the supportof the National Commission for Woman (NCW) “The purpose of the programme was to promote women entrepreneurship in home-stay tourism,” said Theilin Phanbuh, the Chairperson of MSCW. “Tourism is one sector that offers immense potential, especially in Meghalaya with its natural scenic beauty,” she added. കൊച്ചിയില്‍ നിന്നും ഷില്ലോങ്ങിലേയ്ക്ക് ഓട്ടോയാത്ര
ഫോര്‍ട്ട്‌ കൊച്ചിയില്‍ നിന്നും മേഘാലയിലെ ഷില്ലോങ്ങിലേയ്ക്ക് ഓട്ടോറിക്ഷയില്‍ ഒരു യാത്ര. ഒന്നും രണ്ടുമല്ല എണ്‍പത് ഓട്ടോകളില്‍. 250 വിദേശ സഞ്ചാരികളാണ് ഓട്ടോകളില്‍ ഷില്ലോങ്ങിലേയ്ക്ക് പോകുന്നത്. അഡ്വഞ്ചര്‍ ടൂറിസ്റ്റ്‌സ് എന്ന പേരിലറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഗ്രൂപ്പാണ് ഈ യാത്ര ഒരുക്കിയത്. 3500 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ദൂരം പിന്നിട്ട് രണ്ടാഴ്ചയ്ക്കകം ഇവര്‍ ഷില്ലോങ്ങിലെത്തും. ഫ്രാന്‍സ്, ജര്‍മനി, ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയ, യു.കെ, നെതര്‍ലാന്‍ഡ്‌സ്, അമേരിക്ക എന്നിവിടങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള സാഹസികരായ സഞ്ചാരികളാണ് ഓട്ടോയാത്രയില്‍ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നത്. യാത്രയ്ക്ക് മുന്നോടിയായി കൊച്ചിയിലെത്തിയ സംഘം ഓട്ടോ ഓടിക്കാന്‍ പഠിച്ചു. കൊച്ചിയിലെ ഓട്ടോകാരാണ് വിദേശിസഞ്ചാരികളെ ഓട്ടോ ഓടിക്കാന്‍ പഠിപ്പിച്ചത്. ഷില്ലോങ്ങിലെത്തിയാല്‍ യാത്ര അവസാനിപ്പിച്ച് ഇവരെല്ലാം സ്വന്തം നാടുകളിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങും. ജീവകാരുണ്യ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ഫണ്ട് ശേഖരിക്കുന്നതിനായാണ് ഈ യാത്ര സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് സംഘാടകര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
