Scotland’s Highlands has witnessed only 114 coronavirus deaths to date. But the possible influx of tourists when the travel sector reopens from July 15, has the residents worried, The Guardian says in a report. Pubs, cinema to open from July 15 in this tourist destination famous for kilts and bagpipes
Pubs, hairdressers and cinemas will be able to open from July 15 if coronavirus cases continues to decline in Scotland, its First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced. Sturgeon said the move was possible thanks to “real and sustained progress” in suppressing Covid-19. People in Scotland will be allowed to meet up with two other households indoors from July 15 and outdoor hospitality such as beer gardens will be allowed to re-open from July 6. Scotland sets new record tourist visits

The new flight routes and favourable exchange rates are said to be the driving forces behind the increase in foreign tourist arrivals. The combined number of domestic and overseas tourists in Scotland has increased by two percent, taking the tally to 14.1 million visitors. Overnight trips by Great Britain residents for holiday purpose increased to 8.5 per cent compared to the January-September 2016 period.
