187 billion euros – that’s what this country’s tourism sector lost in last six months
The Russian tourism industry has lost 187 billion euros over the past six months due to coronavirus, and it will take at least a year and a half to restore the industry to pre-crisis levels, president of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Andrei Ignatiev said, citing data from the Federal Tourism Agency. Russia eases border restrictions, discusses measures to develop tourism
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has announced steps to ease border restrictions, allowing its citizens to travel, amid the sustained rise in coronavirus cases. During a televised meeting, Mishustin said that an order has been signed to allow Russian nationals to leave the country for work, study or take care of sick relatives. Travel prices unlikely to rise in 2020, says Russian industry union
There will be no price hike for package tours and routes in 2020, vice president of the Russian Travel Industry Union, Yuri Barzykin said in an interview. “Will the package tours and routes become more expensive this year? No, they will not be more costly,” he said. Russian tour operators are expecting tourists for New Year celebrations. “For the fourth year in a row, we will be arranging New Year’s tours. This year, these groups have not yet been cancelled, so we and our partners hope that these trips will take place,” says Igor Kuzmin, a tour operator. Russia likely to relax visa rules after pandemic
Russia’s Federal Tourism Agency (Rosturizm) wants to help the industry recover from the coronavirus crisis by relaxing visa rules after the country reopens its borders. According to the agency’s recommendations, Russia should introduce multiple-entry tourist visas valid for up to five years in order to offset heavy losses sustained by all parts of the travel and tourism industry amid the coronavirus lockdowns. Domestic tourism in Russia may resume in July, but the country’s resorts will have to reduce prices by 20-40% in order to attract visitors after the pandemic, the CEO of tour operator Intourist Victor Topolkaraev has said. “If the situation with coronavirus will go on a positive scenario, the domestic tourist market could revive in June-July – most likely in July. Russia mulling domestic travel ban
The Russian government is mulling a complete ban on domestic travel, both by air and rail, in the face of the COVID-19 threat. Further restrictions on all kinds of movements across the country are also being discussed, according to the state-run news agency’s source. The FIFA World Cup has helped “destroy stereotypes” about Russia and is expected to boost foreign tourism by 15 per cent as fans head home and spread the word that they had a great time, said Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets. “We expect a serious increase in the international influx (of tourists).
