West Bengal to revamp river transport & tourism with WB assistance
Following the announcement of National Water Ways by the Union Ministry, the West Bengal government has initiated a project to enhance its river transport and tourism potential with a $151 million (Rs 1,021 crore) World Bank assistance. Rs 5,369 crore worth Ganga Jal Marg project of the Union Ministry will facilitate cargo movement along the National Waterway-I from Varanasi to Haldia. Accordingly, the state government aims at optimizing the potential of river transport both for cargo and human movements. റോ-റോ സര്‍വീസ്: അടുത്തയാഴ്ച മുതല്‍ രണ്ടു ജങ്കാര്‍
വൈപ്പിന്‍ ഫോര്‍ട്ട് കൊച്ചി റോ-റോ ജങ്കാര്‍ രാവിലെ ആറു മുതല്‍ രാത്രി 10 വരെ സര്‍വീസ് നടത്തണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യം. രണ്ടു ജങ്കാറുകള്‍ സര്‍വീസിനിറക്കിയാല്‍ ഇതു സാധ്യമാകും. അടുത്തയാഴ്ച രണ്ടു ജങ്കാറുകള്‍ സര്‍വീസ് നടത്തിയേക്കും. ഇതിനായി രണ്ടാമത്തെ റോ-റോ ജങ്കാര്‍ കപ്പല്‍ശാലയില്‍ നിന്നു ഇന്നലെ വൈകിട്ട് ഏറ്റെടുത്തു. ലോഡ്സ് ഷിപ്പിങ് കമ്പനിയില്‍ ജങ്കാര്‍ ഓടിച്ചിരുന്ന വി.ബി. അജിത്കുമാറിനെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ ജങ്കാര്‍ ഓടിക്കുന്നതിനായി നിയോഗിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. കപ്പല്‍ശാലയില്‍ നിന്നു രണ്ടാമത്തെ ജങ്കാര്‍ എടുത്ത് വൈപ്പിന്‍ ജെട്ടിയില്‍ എത്തിച്ചത് അജിത് കുമാറായിരുന്നു. രണ്ടു ദിവസത്തെ പരിശീലനത്തിനു ശേഷം ജങ്കാര്‍ ഓടിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയുമെന്നാണു പ്രതീക്ഷ. നിലവില്‍ സര്‍വീസ് നടത്തുന്ന ഏക ജങ്കാറില്‍ തിരക്കേറി. രാവിലെ ഒന്‍പത് മുതല്‍ വൈകിട്ട് ആറുവരെയാണു സര്‍വീസ് നടത്തുന്നത്. ഞായറാഴ്ച സര്‍വീസില്ല. ദിവസേന 36 മുതല്‍ 40 വരെ ട്രിപ്പുകളാണു നടത്തുന്നത്. എന്നിട്ടും ജങ്കാറില്‍ കയറാന്‍ കാത്തു കിടക്കുകയാണു വാഹനങ്ങള്‍. തിരക്കേറിയ ഞായറാഴ്ച സര്‍വീസ് നടത്തണമെന്ന ആവശ്യവും ഉയര്‍ന്നു. പരിചയ സമ്പന്നരായ ജീവനക്കാരുടെ അഭാവം ...
