Canada travel advisory warns citizens not to travel to India
The Government of Canada has issued travel advisory warning its citizens not to travel to India. “Exercise a high degree of caution in India due to a continuing threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country at all times,” it said. The advisory also tells to avoid non-essential travel to parts of north eastern India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, due to conflict. It also advises to avoid all travel to Western border with Bangladesh and Jammu and Kashmi, due to sporadic terrorist activity and violent demonstrations. Inspired by Akshay Kumar’s movie Padman, Chandigarh based teenagers Jaanvi Singh and Laavanya Jain have started a hygiene campaign ‘spot free’. They visit the nearby slums to create awareness of personal hygiene and bought sanitary napkins and distribute among the women. Fourteen youngsters from UK to visit Punjab in search of their roots
The first batch of 14 youngsters of Punjab origin from the United Kingdom will visit the State from August 7 to 16 as part of the scheme ‘Connect with Your Roots (CYR)’. The group consists of eight boys and six girls, aged between 16 and 22 years. The programme CYR was launched by Caption Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab on 13th September 2017. The programme targets the foreign-born youth who are into second, third and fourth generations of Punjabis and have never travelled to Punjab. First all-woman Passport Seva Kendra starts operations in Punjab
The first Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) run by an all-woman team has started operations in Phagwara, Punjab. The seva kendra was inaugurated by Union Minister Vijay Sampla in the local head Post Office. Though the new Seva Kendra was 192nd POPSK in the country, it was the first one to be operated by an all-woman team. “It was part of the Centre’s initiative for women empowerment,” Sampla said. Punjab Tourism join hands with Guru Nanak Univ for tourism boost
With an aim to boost tourism in the state, the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board (PHTPB) has entered into an agreement with Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). Shivdular Singh Dhillon, CEO of the PHTPB, and Vice-Chancellor of the GNDU Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU). “No stone is being left unturned to make Punjab a frontline state in tourism sector. State of Madhya Pradesh bagged the award for the Most Film Friendly State for its efforts towards easing filming in the State by creating a well-structured web site, film friendly infrastructure, offering incentives, maintaining databases, undertaking marketing and promotional initiatives. The Most Film Friendly State Award was announced today by the Chairman of the Jury, Ramesh Sippy.
