India’s first underwater museum to open in Puducherry

The country’s first underwater museum is all set to come up off Puducherry coast. The new addition is expected to give a fillip to the tourism sector in the Union territory. INS Cuddalore, a minesweeper decommissioned in March after it travelled 30,000 nautical miles in 30 years, will be turned into a museum. The minesweeper will be deployed in the seabed 7 km off Puducherry at a depth of 26 metres. Cyclone Gaja alert sounded in Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Puducherry

Travellers in any of the areas of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry, please stay safe as the authorities have issued a cyclone alert in the regions. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone red alert for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh. Cyclone Titli had earlier made landfall on October 11 and left 62 people dead in Odisha. The IMD said the cyclone Gaja was approaching coastal Tamil Nadu (east-northeast of Chennai) and east-southeast of Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. Seven beaches in Puducherry to have face-lift

Rock Beach Seven beaches in Puducherry will have a face-lift with an estimated cost of Rs  44.07 crore. It was informed in the Assembly by the Health and Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao. The works are about to complete in March 2019. He further stated that the development of the heritage area in Puducherry was in progress at an estimated cost of Rs 80 crore and would be completed by December 2018. Asia’s first beach with the Blue Flag certification

Odisha’s Chandrabhaga beach on the Konark coast is the first beach in Asia to get the Blue Flag certification — the tag given to environment-friendly and clean beaches, equipped with amenities of international standards for tourists. It was awarded as an honour on World Environment Day on June 5. Twelve more beaches in the country are to be developed into plastic-free zones with international amenities. These beaches are being developed by the Society for Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM), an Environment Ministry’s body working for the management of coastal areas, in accordance with the Blue Flag standards. Green protocol for Puducherry

Aimed at creating a healthy environment for campuses and communities, Puducherry has released a Green Protocol, which will serve as a guide for universities, colleges, schools, industries, tourism sector, hotels, hospitals and other organisations to carry forward the stated missions of the programme. Chief Minister V Narayanasamy released the protocol in the presence of Minister for Environment M.
