India to strengthen measures to attract more Buddhist pilgrims
Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel has said that despite India being the land of the Buddha, not many Buddhist pilgrims visit the country. Hence corrective measures need to be taken to address this issue, he said. Despite India being endowed with rich Buddhist heritage, it attracts a very small percentage of Buddhist pilgrims, Patel said, while inaugurating a webinar on “Cross Border Tourism”. Permission for cinema shooting at ASI monument sites will be granted within 3 weeks: Prahlad Singh Patel
India’s tourism minister Prahlad Singh Patel has said there won’t be any need to wait for long periods of time, to secure permission to shoot films in any of the monuments of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Patel said that film makers will get permission for shooting within 3 weeks of applying online on the ASI website (asiegov.gov.in/login). He further said that this move is aimed at not only promoting film shooting within India, but will also increase the popularity of Indian monuments. Tourism Ministers’ conclave proposes to form Regional Tourism Councils to jointly promote destinations
At the Tourism Ministers’ conclave 2019 at Kovalam, tourism minsters from different states today proposed the formation of Regional Tourism Councils and developing tourism circuits, which can be region-based and in neighbouring states. “We resolve to jointly promote our tourist attractions across the world in order to give a cutting edge to our campaigns,” the resolution said. The resolution, moved by Odisha Tourism Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, said setting up Regional Tourism Councils will facilitate periodic interaction among different states and enhance collaboration. First-ever breastfeeding room in an Indian heritage monument opens at Taj Mahal
An air-conditioned baby feeding room was inaugurated by Union Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel at the premise on August 29. Earlier this year, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had announced to build a breastfeeding room as a relief to female visitors. “It is the first baby feeding room to open at any Indian monument,” said Vasant Kumar Swarnkar, Superintending Archeologist at ASI. “It’s a 12-by-12 feet room within the Taj Mahal campus. Taj Mahal to soon remain open for tourists all night
Soon, visitors will be able to access Taj Mahal even at night. “Taj Mahal will remain open beyond its 10:00 am to 6:00 pm public access time. We have been receiving a lot of requests to keep the monument open during the night hours. We are dedicated to make this a reality,” said Union Tourism and Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel.
