One of the most sought-after tourist destinations in India, Ooty in Tamil Nadu is going to be plastic-free from August 2019 onwards. The Nilgiri District Administration, is in charge of Ooty, has passed a rule to ban the sale of single-use plastics that include water bottles, food items packed in plastic, and soft drinks in the town and the highways leading to the district’s major towns. The country’s busiest airport in Delhi, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), will go plastic-free by 2019. The airport has already started saying no to plastic for grocery bags, food packaging, bottles, straws, containers, cups and cutlery. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has said the initiative is in line with India’s pledge to eliminate all single-use plastic in the country by 2022. DIAL has started awareness campaigns, enhancing waste management systems and promoting the use of eco-friendly sustainable alternatives progressively. An encouraging response to the Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) has prompted the idea of a much spacious permanent venue from the next edition of what is already the country’s biggest tourism event, organisers said on Sunday. KTM-2020 will also be plastic-free even as the September 27-30 venue of the biennial event took exceptional care to ensure cleanliness, they told a press conference. The just-concluded edition saw 35,000 buyer-seller meets, 15,000 of them involving delegates from foreign countries. The Tourism department of Odisha is undertaking to take a pledge to make a Odisha plastic free on the World Tourism Day, which is falling on 27th September 2018.  It was decided on in a review meeting to plan various activities to celebrate the forthcoming World Tourism Day. 27th September of each year is celebrated all over the world as World Tourism Day as per the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) directive. സംസ്ഥാനം സമ്പൂര്‍ണ പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് നിരോധനത്തിലേക്ക് നീങ്ങുന്നു. ആദ്യഘട്ടമായി വിനോദസഞ്ചാര-ആരോഗ്യമേഖലകളില്‍ നിന്ന് പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് കുപ്പിവെള്ളത്തെ പുറത്താക്കുന്നു. നക്ഷത്രഹോട്ടലുകള്‍, റിസോര്‍ട്ടുകള്‍, ഹൗസ്‌ബോട്ടുകള്‍, 500 കിടക്കകള്‍ക്ക് മുകളില്‍ സൗകര്യമുള്ള ആശുപത്രികള്‍ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലാണ് ആറുമാസത്തിനുള്ളില്‍ പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് കുപ്പിവെള്ളത്തിന് നിരോധനം ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്താന്‍ സംസ്ഥാന മലിനീകരണ നിയന്ത്രണബോര്‍ഡ് തീരുമാനമെടുത്തത്. അടുത്തഘട്ടത്തില്‍ സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ എല്ലാ വിനോദസഞ്ചാരകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലും പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് നിരോധിക്കും. നിലവില്‍ 50 മൈക്രോണില്‍ താഴെയുള്ള പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് കവറുകള്‍ക്കു മാത്രമാണ് കേരളത്തില്‍ നിരോധനമുള്ളത്. ജൂണ്‍ മുതല്‍ ആറുമാസമാണ് പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് കുപ്പിവെള്ളത്തെ പുറത്താക്കാന്‍ ഈ മേഖലകള്‍ക്ക് നല്‍കുന്ന സമയം. പകരം ചില്ലുകുപ്പികള്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കാനാണ് നിര്‍ദ്ദേശം. സുരക്ഷിതമായ കുടിവെള്ളത്തിനായി ഇത്തരം സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്‍ സ്വന്തമായി കുടിവെള്ള ട്രീറ്റ്‌മെന്റ് പ്ലാന്റ്, റിവേഴ്‌സ് ഓസ്‌മോസിസ് പ്ലാന്റ് തുടങ്ങിയവ സ്ഥാപിക്കണം. ചില്ലുകുപ്പി സ്റ്റെറിലൈസേഷന്‍ യൂണിറ്റുകളും തുടങ്ങണം. മലിനീകരണ നിയന്ത്രണബോര്‍ഡിന്റെ ജില്ലാ ഓഫീസുകള്‍ മുഖേന നക്ഷത്രഹോട്ടലുകള്‍ക്കും റിസോര്‍ട്ടുകള്‍ക്കും ആശുപത്രികള്‍ക്കും ഹൗസ്‌ബോട്ടുകള്‍ക്കും ഉടന്‍ നോട്ടീസ് നല്‍കും. പരിസ്ഥിതി സംരക്ഷണ നിയമത്തിന്റെ അഞ്ചാം വകുപ്പ് ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് നിരോധനം നടപ്പാക്കുക. നിരോധനം ലംഘിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് അഞ്ചുമുതല്‍ ഏഴ് ലക്ഷം ...
