Paytm has forayed into hotel bookings and announced the acquisition of NightStay, a luxury hotel-booking platform that offers deals on last-minute bookings. Paytm, owned by One97 Communications, is set to invest Rs 500 crore to scale up its operations and expand the hotel-booking portfolio. Further, Paytm is in plans to leverage its deal with Noida-based NightStay to bolster its new move. Registering a whopping sale of 38mn travel tickets this year, Digital wallet company Paytm is reported to have recorded 3x growth in this financial year when compared to last year. In less than two years since its inception, Paytm has registered a colossal growth in ticket bookings. IRCTC is planing to launch its own digital payment gateway, which is being initially called ‘ipay’. The new payment gateway, which will be rolled out in phases after testing, is expected to be ready over the next 4-8 weeks. At present, Razorpay, Mobikwik and Paytm lead IRCTC’s railway ticket booking transactions through their gateways. The companies have to pay “a one-time licensing fee to integrate with IRCTC’s website and mobile app and in return share revenues with IRCTC on every transaction that goes through them. The licensing fee ranges from Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
