അസാധാരണ വിശേഷങ്ങളുള്ള ലോകത്തെ ചില സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലേക്ക് വിനോദ സഞ്ചാരം നടത്തിയാലോ? ഇതിൽ നമ്മുടെ നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞിയും ഉൾപ്പെടും. വരവായ് കുറിഞ്ഞിക്കാലം പന്ത്രണ്ട് വർഷത്തിലൊരിക്കൽ മൂന്നാർ മലനിരകളെ നീല നിറത്തിൽ മുക്കുന്ന നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞി ശരിക്കും വിസ്മയമാണ്. ഈ ഓഗസ്റ്റ് മുതല്‍ ഒക്‌ടോബര്‍ വരെയാണ് നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞിക്കാലം. ഇരവികുളം ദേശീയ ഉദ്യാനത്തിലെ രാജമലയിലാണ് നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞികൾ കാണാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞ തവണ കൂടുതൽ പേരെത്തിയത്. അവസാനമായി 2006 ലായിരുന്നു നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞി പൂത്തത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞിക്കാലത്ത് അഞ്ചുലക്ഷം വിനോദ സഞ്ചാരികളാണ് മൂന്നാറിലെത്തിയത്. ഇതിന്റെ മൂന്നിരട്ടി സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ ഇത്തവണ നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞി കാണാൻ എത്തുമെന്നുറപ്പാണ്. പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിലെ മലകളിൽ 1500 മീറ്ററിനു മുകളിൽ ചോലവനങ്ങൾ ഇടകലർന്ന പുൽമേടുകളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന കുറ്റിച്ചെടിയാണ് നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞി(Strobilanthes kunthiana). 12 വർഷം കൂടുമ്പോൾ കൂട്ടത്തോടെ പൂക്കുന്നു എന്നതാണ് ഇതിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകത. ഒറ്റയ്ക്കു കണ്ടാൽ ഒരു പ്രത്യേകതയുമില്ലാത്ത പൂവാണ് കുറിഞ്ഞി. സീസണിൽ ഇവ ഒരു സ്ഥലത്തു വ്യാപകമായി പൂത്തു നിൽക്കുന്നതാണ് നിറപ്പകിട്ടു നൽകുന്നത്.   പുള്ളിപ്പുലിയല്ല, ഇത് പുള്ളിത്തടാകം അദ്ഭുതങ്ങൾ ഒളിപ്പിച്ച നിഗൂഢ ... The much-awaited Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes Kunthiana) season is almost here in Kerala and the state is expecting over 800,000 travellers to visit the picturesque hill station during July -October 2018 period. The Neelakurinji flowers will blossom after 12 years across the hills of Munnar in Idukki district during these months. Neelakurinji is commonly found across the Western Ghats,and had flourished previously in 2006. Munnar has the largest concentration of the Strobilanthes out of the 46 varieties found in India. Global timeshare firm RCI has recently published a report which studied holiday and vacation patterns of 50,000 RCI members in India, and found that there was a 13 per cent growth in the number of Indians taking vacations abroad in 2017-18. The report,  found that the US was the most preferred destination in 2017-18 while for those headed for Europe, Switzerland and Spain were the top choices. The long-awaited ‘neelakurinji’ season is all set to begin from August to November.  Munnar town and nearby areas are preparing to receive the tens of thousands of visitors who would be flocking the hills of Munnar to experience the ‘neelakurinji’ season. As per the official data, around eight lakh visitors are expected in Munnar during the ‘neelakurinji’ season. To control the traffic, regulations will be imposed in Munnar town between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The Munnar grama panchayat and the police have already removed the roadside vendors and traffic barriers have been constructed on the two sides. Kerala has unseen marvels hidden in the light of popular destinations which could be developed as tourism hotspots, said Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Govt of Kerala, while inaugurating the Munnar Tourism Partnership Meet 2018 at the Le Maritime Hotel in Kochi. He has also urged the tourism stakeholders to take good care to prevent environmental degradation  and preserve Kerala’s rich biodiversity.
