The sun shines over the God’s Own Country, not knowing about the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) weather warning issued across the state sighting chances of incessant rains. However, looking at the clear sky, the IMD withdrew red alert for rains and landslides across Kerala, which they had issued earlier this week. The IMD had predicted excessive rainfall across Kerala, followed by which red alert have been issued in Palakkad, Thrissur and Idukki districts of Kerala. Neelakurinji spectacle is ready to welcome visitors by Oct 9
The Idukki district administration in Kerala has lifted the ban on Munnar, and Thekkady, including other tourist destinations. Effective from October 9 (Tuesday), travellers can access any of the tourist destinations including the Neelakurinji gardens. Earlier, the district administration has banned tourism and late night travel in the district starting October 5, in view of the heavy to very heavy rain forecast in Kerala and Lakshadweep in the next two-three days. Showcase Munnar conducts bike rally to promote tourism in Munnar
As part of Neelakurinji campaign, Showcase Munnar Association organized a Super Bike Rally on 22nd September in continuation of Rally to the Blue Mountain. There were 20 Harley Davidson and other super bikes participated in the rally. Rally was flagged off at Ernakulam Boat Jetty in the morning by K P Nandakumar, Joint Director, Kerala Tourism; K S Shine and G Kamalamma, Deputy Directors of Kerala Tourism; Rajesh Nair, CGM, Eastend Group were present in the function. The big floods have had a blow on the tourism in Kerala, especially the hilly destination Munnar. Hardly a couple of weeks after the floods, Munnar is coming back as the Neelakurinji started blooming in many parts. The floods in Kerala had washed away the Periyavara bridge on the Munnar – Marayoor route, there by stopping all kinds of transportation between the two places. The bridge connecting tourists to Rajamal tourists zone and the Eravikulam nation park was the only access for the tourists to reach Rajamala to watch the mass blooming of Neelakurinji. The Neelakurinji season has started and will last till November. Those who wish to visit Munnar during the Kurinji season can visit the Eravikulam National Park to spot the flowers which blossoms once in 12 years. Visitors will be allowed between 7 am and 4 pm. The state tourism department has made special arrangements for the visitors to book online tickets and pre-registered booking facilities. 75 per cent of the tickets will be distributed online and the rest 25 per cent will be distributed direct.
