Covid 19: National parks and wildlife sanctuaries closed in the country
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change has ordered the closure of all national parks and sanctuaries in the country. The ministry has asked forest officials to take adequate measures to prevent the transmission of the virus from humans to animals, including tiger sanctuaries, which will remain closed until further notice. The move comes amid reports that several lions have died from the covid virus. An order has also been issued to take the necessary steps to prevent the spread of the disease to wildlife. Chile creates five national parks over 10 mln acres
President of Chile Michelle Bachelet and Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, President and CEO of Tompkins Conservation sign decrees creating 10 million acres of new National Parks. This includes Tompkins Conservation’s two flagship parks, Patagonia and Pumalín. The one million acres and world-class infrastructure they contain have been billed as the largest donation of land from a private entity to a country. This marks the culmination of the pledge that President Michelle Bachelet and Kristine McDivitt Tompkins signed in March 2017 to create a network of five new national parks in Chile and the expansion of three others.
