As per the press release issued on 8th January 2018, the government aims at enhancing  the length of National Highways in the country to 200,000 kms. Currently the country have around 131,326 km of national highways. In addition to this about 53,031 km of state roads has been declared as new NHs in principal. The total length of National Highways in the country was 91,287 km as on March 31, 2014. Two important national highways in Varanasi, having a total length of 34 kilometres and constructed at a cost of Rs 1571.95 crore will be dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, 12th of November, 2018. Now you can cruise through selected Indian roads, as the government had increased the speed limit to over 120kmph for four-wheelers on expressways. Additionally, the speed limit for taxis and cabs has also been increased from 80kmph to 100kmph. Meanwhile, on the national highways, the speed has been updated to 100kmph for cars and 90 kmph for taxis and cabs.
