Alappuzha beach became differently abled friendly
Alappuzha became the first ‘Differently abled friendly beach’ in Kerala on 3rd December 2018, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. As part of the government’s policy to provide barrier free tourism destinations for all – ramps have been built in the beach to provide access for the differently abled visitors. The first phase of the ramps was inaugurated by S Suhas, Alappuzha District Collector. In order to convey the message that Alappuzha is ready to receive tourists to its backwaters, the Alappzuha District Tourism Promotion Council is organizing a campaign with the tag line ‘Back to Backwaters’. The authorities are planning to have boat rally from the finishing point of the Nehru trophy boat race. The date of the rally is 2nd November 2018. Earlier the event was scheduled on 5th October, but postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions.
