In view of the tragic death of several trekkers during the forest fire in the Kolukkumalai hills of Theni district in Tamil Nadu, the Chief Secretary and the Chairman of State Disaster Management Authority has issued directions to stop trekking to hills and also to ensure that all fire lines are cleared. In view of the situation, the state has issued 6-point instructions with immediate effect. No movement of members of public inside forest areas, without permission will be allowed. Atleast 27 people including 25 women are feared to have been trapped in the severe forest fire atop the Kolukkumalai Hills in Tamil Nadu. “Two groups have gone for trek inKolukumalai. One group of 13 people from Tirupur & Erode and another group of 24 from Chennai, organised by Chennai Trekking Club. Eight men 26 ladies 3 children were included in the trek. The group reached Kolukkumalai Saturday morning and camped in an estate. ഓഫ്റോഡ്‌ യാത്ര ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് കൊളുക്കുമലയിലേക്ക് പോകാം. അവിടേക്ക് നടത്തിയ ബുള്ളറ്റ് യാത്രയെക്കുറിച്ച്  മാഹിന്‍   ഷാജഹാന്‍ എഴുതുന്നു. കുട്ടിക്കാലം മുതൽ കണ്ട സ്വപ്നമായിരുന്നു കോട പുതച്ച മലമടക്കുകളിൽ കൂടിയൊരു ബുള്ളറ്റ് യാത്ര. കുറച്ചു മാസങ്ങൾക്കു മുൻപ് സുഹൃത്ത് നജീമുമായി ചേർന്ന് ആ ആഗ്രഹം നിറവേറി. മൂന്നാർ-കൊളുക്കുമല യാത്രയിലൂടെ! മലനിരകളുടെയും, തേയിലത്തോട്ടങ്ങളുടെയും ഇടയിലൂടെ കോടമഞ്ഞിനെ വകഞ്ഞു മാറ്റി കാഴ്ചകൾക്കു മുന്നേ പാഞ്ഞ ശബ്ദവുമായി ബുള്ളറ്റിൽ മൂന്നാർ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ മനസ്സിൽ കയറിക്കൂടിയതായിരുന്നു ഒരു ഓഫ് റോഡ് യാത്ര, ചില തേടലുകൾക്കുത്തരമായി വീണു കിട്ടിയ പേരാണ് കൊളുക്കുമല. മൂന്നാറിൽ നിന്നും 32കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ മാറി സൂര്യനെല്ലി വഴിയാണ് കൊളുക്കുമല പോകേണ്ടത്. സൂര്യനെല്ലിയെത്തിയപ്പോൾ ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് മൂന്നു മണിയോടടുത്തിരുന്നു. പിന്നെയും പത്തു കിലോമീറ്ററോളമുണ്ട് കൊളുക്കു മലയിലേക്ക്. ടിക്കറ്റെടുത്ത് മല കയറാൻ തുടങ്ങുമ്പോഴേ താഴെ നിന്നും താക്കീതിന്‍റെ സ്വരത്തിൽ പലരും പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു ജീപ്പ് യാത്രയാകും നല്ലതെന്ന്.പക്ഷെ  കൊല്ലത്തു നിന്നും ഇത്രയും ദൂരം വന്ന ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് മനസ്സിൽ പതിയുന്ന യാത്രയാകണം ഇതെന്ന് തോന്നിയതിനാൽ ബുള്ളറ്റുമായുള്ള ... മൂന്നാറില്‍ നിന്നും 35കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ സഞ്ചരിച്ചാല്‍ കൊളുക്കുമലയിലെത്താം. ചിന്നക്കനാലില്‍ നിന്ന് സൂര്യനെല്ലി പോകുന്ന വഴിയാണ് സമുദ്രനിരപ്പില്‍ നിന്നും 8000 അടി ഉയരത്തില്‍ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കൊളുക്കുമലയുള്ളത്. 2002 മുതലാണ്‌ ഇവിടേയ്ക്ക് സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ക്ക് പ്രവേശനം അനുവദിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയത്. അന്നുമുതല്‍ വിവിധ രാജ്യങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നും ഇവിടെത്തുന്ന സഞ്ചാരികളെ കൊളുക്കുമല കാണിക്കുന്ന ഗൈഡ് കാര്‍ത്തിക് ടൂറിസം ന്യൂസ്‌ ലൈവിനോട് സംസാരിച്ചു. ഈ നാട്ടില്‍ ജനിച്ചു വളര്‍ന്നവനാണ് ഞാന്‍. ഇവിടെ ടൂറിസം ആരംഭിച്ചതുമുതല്‍ സഞ്ചാരികളെയും കൊണ്ട് ഞാന്‍ മലകയറുന്നു. സീസണ്‍ ആവുമ്പോള്‍ ഒരുദിവസം മൂന്നു തവണ സവാരി നടത്തും. 12 കിലോമീറ്ററാണ് മലയിലേക്കുള്ള ദൂരം. അതില്‍ 7 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ഓഫ്‌റോഡാണ്. മൂന്നുമണിക്കൂറെടുക്കും ഈ ദൂരം പോയി തിരിച്ചുവരാന്‍. വിദേശികളാണ് കൂടുതലും കൊളുക്കുമലയുടെ മുകളില്‍ പോവാറുള്ളത്. സാഹസികര്‍ക്ക് പറ്റിയ സ്ഥലമാണിത്. ഓരോ തവണയും മലയുടെ മുകളിലേക്ക് ജീപ്പ് ഓടിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ഓരോ അനുഭവമാണ് ലഭിക്കുക. എന്നും വ്യത്യസ്ഥ കാഴ്ചകളാണ്. ചിലപ്പോഴൊക്കെ മുയല്‍, മുള്ളന്‍പന്നി തുടങ്ങിയ മൃഗങ്ങളെയും കാണാം. മലക്കുമുകളില്‍ എല്ലായിപ്പോഴും തണുപ്പാണ്. അവിടെ ...
