Restrictions lifted; Tourism centers opened in Kodagu
Daily test positivity rates have dropped and restrictions in Kodagu have been lifted. The third phase of lockdown exemptions, including the Bangalore City District, came into effect on July 5. Accordingly, places of worship and malls were opened and business activities were allowed until 9 p.m. However, due to high diagnostic rates, the lockdown in Kodagu and Hassan was reduced to a second phase exemption. Kodagu district administration bans ‘disaster tourism’
Kodagu, devastated by the recent floods, is visited by a lot of people and which made the Kodagu district administration ordering a crackdown on ‘disaster tourism’. The incessant rains during the second week of August resulted in landslips and floods which claimed the live at least 20 people in the district. Earlier this month, the district administration had directed all hotels, homestays and resorts in Kodagu not to accept bookings till August 31. Tourist ban in Kodagu till August 31
Rescue-cum-relief operations are going on in full swing in Kodagu, which is reeling under rain havoc. In view of the rain fury, the Deputy Commissioner has banned entry and stay of tourists in Kodagu till August 31. In a circular issued on Sunday, DC P I Sreevidya has prohibited tourists from staying in hotels, resorts, home stays, guest houses and other private lodges and boarding homes, till the end of this month. Kannur airport will be beneficial to Karnataka tourism
The Kannur International Airport in northern Kerala, which is scheduled to be opened in September 2018, is expected to be beneficial for the Karnataka tourism industry. Top tourism destinations of Karnataka, like Mysuru and Kodagu (Coorg) are likely to be benefited by the new airport as they are within easy reach from Kannur.
