The flood waters have receded from most of the places, and, the Kerala government has taken up the massive task of cleaning houses and public places filled with slush left behind. The hospitality industry in Kerala, which is also hit largely by the floods, is joining hands with the government to help clean the houses. A team of 66 members from the Thekkady Destination Promotion Council (TDPC) has volunteered in Aranmula (Central Kerala) yesterday. Aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked domestic airlines to operate additional flights to Kerala and cap fares as the state is affected by one of the worst floods in the history of the state. The flood situation has forced its busiest airport in Kochi to shut operations till August 26. The DGCA after holding talks with the carriers, said it is constantly monitoring airfares on 32 direct routes operating to/from Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Coimbatore and Mangalore. “Spike in airfare on a few routes have been observed. നിപ്പ വൈറസ് ഭീതി, വിദേശ ടൂറിസ്റ്റിന്റെ കൊലപാതകം എന്നിവ സൃഷ്ടിച്ച ആഘാതത്തിൽ നിന്ന് കേരളത്തിലെ ടൂറിസം മേഖല കരകയറി വരികയായിരുന്നു. മൂന്നാറിലെ കുറിഞ്ഞിപ്പൂക്കാലം ടൂറിസം മേഖല പ്രതീക്ഷയോടെ ഉറ്റുനോക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. എന്നാൽ തോരാമഴ സംസ്ഥാന ടൂറിസം മേഖലയ്ക്കും തിരിച്ചടിയായി. ടൂറിസ്റ്റുകൾ ഏറെ പോകുന്ന മൂന്നാർ, വയനാട് പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ കനത്ത മഴയിൽ പലേടത്തും റോഡുകൾ തകർന്ന് ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടു. മഴ നീണ്ടത് കുറിഞ്ഞി വസന്തത്തെയും ബാധിച്ചു. പന്ത്രണ്ടു വർഷത്തിലൊരിക്കൽ പൂക്കുന്ന നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞി ജൂലൈയിൽ നീല വിസ്മയം തീർക്കേണ്ടതാണ്. എന്നാൽ അങ്ങിങ്ങായി പൂത്തതല്ലാതെ രാജഗിരി മലനിരകൾ നീലപ്പുതപ്പ് അണിഞ്ഞില്ല. ഈ മാസം അവസാനത്തോടെ നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞികൾ പൂക്കുമെന്നാണ് വനം വകുപ്പിന്റെ കണക്കു കൂട്ടൽ. കനത്ത മഴ തുടരുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ കേരളത്തിലേക്കുള്ള യാത്ര ഒഴിവാക്കണമെന്ന് അമേരിക്ക അവരുടെ പൗരന്മാർക്ക് നിർദ്ദേശം കൊടുത്തതും വിനയായി. വൈകാതെ മഴയൊഴിഞ്ഞ് കേരളത്തിലെ ടൂറിസം മേഖലയുടെ മേലുള്ള ആശങ്കയുടെ കാർമേഘം നീങ്ങുമെന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷയിലാണ് ഈ രംഗത്തുള്ളവർ.

All the tourists including 30 foreign tourists who were trapped following a landslide in the Plum Judy Resort in Munnar are safe, informed Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran. The minister has also urged the authorities to shift the tourists from Idukki to a safer place. The Kerala state Tourism department has announced Rs 25 lakh cash prize for the winners of Champions Boat League tournament. “The boat races in the state will be promoted as a major attraction for International tourists visiting the state,” said Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism. Cochin Port’s new cruise terminal will come up at the Ernakulam Wharf by February 2020. The cruise terminal, to be built at a cost of Rs 25.72 crore, will have the facilities to handle 5,000 tourists. The 2,253-sq metre terminal will feature passenger and crew lounges, immigration counters, tourist information counter and duty free shopping. The estimated cost of construction of the terminal is Rs 25.72 crore and of this Rs 21.41 crore had been sanctioned as grant by the Union Tourism Ministry, said a release. Kerala Tourism is all set to start the harvest festival of God’s Own Country, Onam celebrations from August 24 onwards.  The department has said that it will ensure than atleast 1000 foreign tourists will participate in the festivities. “The department will ensure that green protocol is observed and there will also be cultural programmes by celebrities and famous artists,” said Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism.
