KTDC Samudra, Kovalam Adding to its portfolio of new products, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) has unveiled Premium Life Membership and Institutional Membership cards for individuals and institutions at affordable rates, offering seven nights of free stay in a year and substantial discounts on all its premium facilities, including hotels at hill stations and beach resorts. Jatayu Earths Center is one of the the latest attractions of Kerala, located at Chadayamangalam in Kollam. The tourists spot includes the sculpture of the great mythical bird Jatayu mentioned in the Hindu epic Ramayana, cable car – fully manufactured in Switzerland, adventure park and helicopter local flying service. The sculpture at the Earth Centre is considered the largest bird sculpture in the world. This is the first time the state to have helicopter local flying service as part of a tourism project.   Alappuzha, the Venice of the East, is going to have a port-museum at the beach, depicting the city’s glorious history and heritage. Primary discussions regarding the museum master plan has been conducted at the Alappuzha port office. Ramachandran Kadannappally, Minister for Ports and Museums, inaugurated the function. The meeting was presided by Thomas Issac, Finance Minister of Kerala. The new initiative is part of the comprehensive programmes to make Alappuzha the heritage tourism city of Kerala. Climbing the Chembra peak in Wayanad is every traveller’s dream. But, the district authorities have closed in January due to drought in the hills. After nine long months, the peak is now open for tourists. The tourism department had reconstructed the road from Meppadi to Chembra Peak spending Rs 1.8 crore. But, a portion of the road was washed away during the monsoon and around 50 metres had to be rebuilt, the District Tourism Promotion Council said in a press release. Alphons KJ, Union Minister for Tourism has announced Rs 32 crores worth tourism development projects in Kanyakumari. The project envisages different enhancement activities in the tourist center including a bridge between Vivekananda rock and Thiruvalluvar statue. Alphons has visited the site along with Pon Radhakrishnan, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Shipping. Later Alphons has explained to the media, the various development activities planned for the coastal areas worth Rs 100 cores, under the ‘Swedeshi Darshan’ scheme of the Union Ministry and said the development activities in Kanyakumari will be part of these works. Tourism Minister for State (I/C), Govt. of India, K J Alphons has sanctioned Rs 3 lakh for the Navaratri celebrations in Kerala’s capital, Thiruvananthapuram, which is slated to be held on October 21. The amount will be handed over to the Travancore Navaratri Utsava Trust. “The Navratri celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram carries a rich legacy of almost 200 years. It is necessary to protect Kerala’s great historical heritage,” said the minister. The Navaratri festival is celebrated in Travancore from AD 972 onwards. Marking the new tourism season, the first cruise ship will arrive at Kochi port by 15th October. After Kochi, the luxury cruise ship MV Boudicca, carrying  522 tourists, will reach Vizhinjam the next day at around 8 AM. The tourists disembarking at the Vizhinjam port will be received by the tourism authorities in traditional style. After sightseeing in different tourism attractions of the region, the group will set off to Colombo at evening. The luxury ship belongs to Fred. The picturesque Wayanad is all set to be more beautiful, with the hill station going to be made waste-free soon. The district administration, in association with three-tier local administrative bodies, is planning to make the destination waste-free. An action plan has been prepared by three-tier local bodies to declare Wayanad a complete waste-free district from January 1. The action plan suggests conducting ward-level waste-free declaration on October 21, followed by Grama panchayat-level and district-level waste-free declarations on November 14 and December 31 respectively. Meghalaya, the northeast state of India, is planning to explore the potential of Ayush treatment in the state to promote tourism. It was informed by the Health and Family Welfare Minister Alexander Laloo Hek, after his recent visit to Kerala, where he has discussed with the Kerala government the prospects of Ayush in promotion of tourism, “Meghalaya government would like to take up Ayush treatment in a big way like Kerala and the idea is to attract more tourists to the state,” said Hek. The sun shines over the God’s Own Country, not knowing about the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) weather warning issued across the state sighting chances of incessant rains. However, looking at the clear sky, the IMD withdrew red alert for rains and landslides across Kerala, which they had issued earlier this week. The IMD had predicted excessive rainfall across Kerala, followed by which red alert have been issued in Palakkad, Thrissur and Idukki districts of Kerala. Kerala Tourism department is inviting application for tour guide training programmes at state and regional levels. There are 50 seats available for the state level course and 200 seats for the regional level. Training centers will be in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Thalassery. Last date to submit the application is 22nd October 2018. Duration for the state level course is 9 weeks and 4 weeks for the regional level.
