Bengaluru and Mumbai airports to partially shut down in February
Starting today, nearly 5,000 flights at Mumbai airport are being cancelled till March end for six hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 7 February and 30 March 2019. The planned closure at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is for airport re-carpeting and relaying the two cross runways that happens typically every six-seven years. The Mumbai airport will be shut for six hours (11 am to 5 pm) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. All flights, domestic and international during this period have been cancelled. Fully automated self bag drop system at Bengaluru airport
You don’t have to wait for long to check-in your baggage at the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, anymore. The whole process of baggage check-in will take only 45 seconds from now on as the airport has deployed fully-automated self bag drop machines at the airport. The self bag drop machines will accelerate the baggage transaction and reduce check-in queues. S R Mahesh, Tourism Minister, has taken part in the maiden flight from Mysuru to Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. The flight service has been envisaged to facilitate travel of national and international tourists for the Dasara festivities. The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) and the State Tourism Department are collaborating with Air India for this initiative. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to be plastic-free by 2019
The country’s busiest airport in Delhi, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), will go plastic-free by 2019. The airport has already started saying no to plastic for grocery bags, food packaging, bottles, straws, containers, cups and cutlery. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has said the initiative is in line with India’s pledge to eliminate all single-use plastic in the country by 2022. DIAL has started awareness campaigns, enhancing waste management systems and promoting the use of eco-friendly sustainable alternatives progressively. Bengaluru tops survey in the passenger-friendly Airport
Well-known for its state-of-the-art passenger-friendly amenities, the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, came fist in the quarterly ACI-ASQ Arrival Survey. The airport is operated by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), In the survey conducted by Airports Council International’s Airport Service Quality survey for arrivals during April-June 2018, Bengaluru Airport gained 4.67 points (out of five). Abu Dhabi International Airport was second with 4.53 points, while Toronto Pearson International Airport was third with 4.44 points. Bengaluru Airport to get its own robot soon
India’s Silicon Valley will soon be the first in India to offer robotic assistance to passengers. Named Kempa, the humanoid robot was created by local start-up Sirena Technologies. The project is in its final phase, and is likely to be installed at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport as soon as Minister of State of Innovation and Technology Priyank Kharge gives his approval.
