Kasaragod, which has been behind the limelight of the Kerala tourism sector for years, has made a major come back in 2018. As per the statistics of the State Tourism Department, Kasaragod district ranked first in the number of foreign tourists with 269 per cent growth from the previous year. Kollam district, which is in the second place, recorded 45 per cent growth. With an aim to promote the Northern part of Kerala, the travel and tourism stakeholders have come together to form Malabar Tourism Society. The organization, which is scheduled to be launched on January 12, 2019, aims to develop the tourism in Malabar (North Kerala) region and promote six districts of Northern Kerala collectively by forming a dedicated Malabar circuit. A suranga is a narrow horizontal tunnel, barely two-and-a-half feet wide and just over five-and-a-half feet high, dug into laterite hills until a water spring is found. The typical suranga can run from anywhere between 30 metres to 300 metres into a hill. Bakel Fort, Kasargod Association of Tourism Trade Organizations India (ATTOI), is organizing its Annual Convention in Kasargod from 6th to 8th December 2018. Members of ATTOI from all over India will participate in the convention. Almost 50 members are expected to participate in the convention. The state government has expedited the steps to envisage Kerala as the Yoga Capital of India. The ministry has decided to allot fifteen acres of land in Karinthalam village of Kasargod as lease to construct Yoga and Naturopathy Post-graduate Institute. The proposed institute will have facility to accommodate 100 patients. Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy will oversee the construction.
