DTPC organizes boat rally in Alappuzha to mark the revival of backwaters
Backwaters of Alappuzha are in the process of revival after the chaos of the rain and floods. In order to convey the message that Alappuzha is ready to receive tourists to its backwaters, the Alappzuha District Tourism Promotion Council is organizing a campaign with the tag line ‘Back to Backwaters’. The authorities are planning to have boat rally from the finishing point of the Nehru trophy boat race.The event will start on 5th October at 8:00 Am, with a bike rally of women, which will start from Alappuzha beach and conclude at the boat race finishing point. Houseboat terminal-cum-hub is coming up at Kadamakudy, Kochi
Houseboat industry of Kerala, mostly concentrated in Alappuzha and Kottayam districts, is spreading its focus to other regions such as Eranakulam and Malabar. The Ernakulam District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has sought the permission from the authorities to set up a houseboat terminal-cum-hub on Kadamakudy Island. “They can also operate from DTPC’s boat terminal at Marine Drive. The Chittoor-Cheranalloor route and the water body on the north western parts of the city are ideal to operate and berth them. House boats start to float again in Kerala
After the incessant rains and flood, Kuttanad in Alappuzha, renowned for its house boats, is bouncing back to normal. House boats resumed operation in Alappuzha on 31st August 2018. This year was expected to be a better tourism season for the houseboats, with the announcement of the first-ever Boat League, Nehru Trophy Boat Race and Monsoon Tourism in the tourism chart.
