Kerala has been the favourite destination for Telugu people during 2018. As per records, around 1.26 lakh tourists from Telangana visited Kerala during the year, citing an increase of 27 per cent tourist footfall from the state, when compared to the previous year. It was informed by VS Anil, Deputy Director, Kerala Tourism Department, while talking in a B2B meeting in Hyderabad. “Meanwhile, 13 per cent increase in tourist base was registered from the neighboring State of Andhra Pradesh to Kerala during 2018,” he added. Kerala finds a place in the 19 places shortlisted by CNN this year for travel enthusiasts to visit in 2019. “This area of India has it all: sun, sea, sand, good food, houseboats, culture and wildlife. Its spectacular natural landscapes — think palm trees and sprawling backwaters — lend the region the nickname “God’s Own Country,” the report says. First quarter of the tourism year depicted substantial increase in the number of tourists in Kerala. Number of tourists (local and foreign) during the first three months of the year shows 17.87% increase than the previous year. 6,54,854 more  tourists visited Kerala during this period, which is the highest rate of increase since a decade. Same period in the last year, the number of tourists visited Kerala was only 36,63,552; while it is 43,18,406 in 2018. The number of indigenous tourists shown 18.57% increase so far. With an aim to ensure the safety of the tourists arriving in Kerala, the state police chief Loknath Behera has assured that the tourism police aid centres will be fully functional at key tourists destinations by June 15. The country’s maiden tourism police station had come up in Kerala way back in 2010, but, it failed to cover the major tourist hostspots in the state. The department has decided to impart adequate training to police personnel so they can be deployed in the newly set up centres. ‘Airpocalypse II,’ a report from Greenpeace India revealed that Kerala has the cleanest air among other states of India, followed by a good ambient quality air. The agency has found out that Kerala kept PM10 (particulate matter in air of 10 microns and smaller) standards, said Sunil Dahiya, senior campaigner, Greenpeace India. Kerala followed a consistency in its pollution level in 2015 and 2016 with a minor variation in number. Cities such as Kochi, Thrissur, Wayanad and Kozhikode showed an increased variation whereas Alappuzha, Kottayam, Malappuram and Palakkad got a slight decrease in variables.
