Mini water mist fire tenders to battle wildfires in Kerala
After the devastating floods in the second week of August, climate experts have predicted severe summer and drought ahead. To combat this, the state government is planning to bring mini water mist fire tenders to efficiently combat forest fire during the coming summer. In 2016, the state received 165 satellite-based fire-alerts from the Forest Fire Alert System, a national database maintained by the Forest Survey of India (FSI), Dehradun. Green Tribunal urges ministry to finalise national policy on forest fires
Noting that forest fires normally occur in April every year causing huge damage to the environment, the National Green Tribunal has directed the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change to finalise the National Policy on Forest Fire within two weeks. The ministry told the green panel that all the states have complied with the direction of the tribunal and submitted their response to the Draft National Policy on Forest Fire. ചാലക്കുടിയിലും കാട്ടുതീ
തേനി കുരങ്ങിണി വനത്തിലെ കാട്ടുതീ ദുരന്തത്തിനു പിന്നാലെ തൃശൂരിലും കാടിനു തീപിടിച്ചു. തൃശൂർ പിള്ളപ്പാറയിലും അതിരപ്പിള്ളി വടാമുറിയിലും പടരുന്ന കാട്ടുതീ അണയ്ക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമം തുടങ്ങി. വനംവകുപ്പ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ അടക്കം 60 അംഗ സംഘം തീയണക്കാന്‍ കാട്ടിലുണ്ട്. കൊന്നക്കുഴിക്കും ചായ്പ്പന്‍കുഴിക്കും ഇടയ്ക്കുള്ള കൊടപ്പന്‍കല്ലിലെ തീ പൂര്‍ണമായി കെടുത്തി. ഇവിടെ മുപ്പതു ഹെക്റ്റര്‍ അടിക്കാട് കത്തിനശിച്ചു. ഇതിനുപിന്നാലെയാണ് പിള്ളപ്പാറയിലും വടാമുറിയിലും തീപിടിത്തമുണ്ടായത്. ഇതിനു പിന്നില്‍ ദുരൂഹത ഉണ്ടെന്ന് വനം വകുപ്പ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ അറിയിച്ചു. കാട്ടുതീ അണയ്ക്കാന്‍ വനംവകുപ്പ് പ്രദേശവാസികളുടേയും സന്നദ്ധപ്രവര്‍ത്തകരുടേയും സഹായം തേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
Fire in Kolukkumalai: 27 trapped including 25 women
Atleast 27 people including 25 women are feared to have been trapped in the severe forest fire atop the Kolukkumalai Hills in Tamil Nadu. “Two groups have gone for trek inKolukumalai. One group of 13 people from Tirupur & Erode and another group of 24 from Chennai, organised by Chennai Trekking Club. Eight men 26 ladies 3 children were included in the trek. വേനല്‍ കടുത്തതോടെ സൈലന്‍റ് വാലി ബഫര്‍സോണ്‍ മലനിരകളില്‍ കാട്ടുതീ പടര്‍ന്നു. കിലോമീറ്ററുകളോളം പടര്‍ന്നു പിടിച്ച കാട്ടുതീ വന്യജീവികള്‍ക്കും ജൈവ സമ്പത്തിനും നാശമുണ്ടാക്കി. മലമുകളിലെ ഏറ്റവും മുകളിലാണ് തീ പടര്‍ന്നത്. പാറക്കെട്ടുകളും പുല്ലും നിറഞ്ഞ പ്രദേശമാണിത്. കാട്ടുതീ കൂടുതല്‍ പടര്‍ന്നാല്‍ മണ്ണൊലിപ്പും മലയിടിച്ചും ഉണ്ടാകാന്‍ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്. തീ നിയന്ത്രണവിധേയമാക്കാന്‍ വനം വകുപ്പ് ശ്രമിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും നിലവിലെ സംവിധാനങ്ങള്‍ അപര്യാപ്തമാണ്. പത്തിലധികം ഹെക്ടര്‍ വനഭൂമി അഗ്നിക്കിരയായെന്ന് അധികൃതര്‍ അറിയിച്ചു. തീ നിയന്ത്രിക്കാന്‍ വനം വകുപ്പ് നടപടി ഊര്‍ജിതമാക്കുമെന്ന് ഡി.എഫ്.ഒ വി.പി. ജയപ്രകാശ് പറഞ്ഞു.
