10.6 million foreign tourists arrive in India 2018-19 compared to 10.4 million in 2017-18. Economic Survey says that “Tourism sector is a major engine of economic growth that contributes significantly in terms of GDP, foreign exchange earnings and employment.” In India, the Tourism sector had been performing well with Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) growing at 14 per cent to 10.4 million and Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) at 20.6 per cent to US$28.7 billion in 2017-18. Foreign Exchange Earnings from tourism in India to increase by 6.8% in 2019
The Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEE) from tourism stood at USD 28.9 billion (Rs 1.97 trillion) in 2018, which accounted for 5.4 per cent of the total exports, according to a latest FICCI-Yes Bank report. The contribution is further expected to increase by 6.8 per cent in 2019 and rise by 5.6 per cent p a by 2029 to reach Rs 3.63 trillion. 17% growth in foreign exchange earnings through tourism
The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, has announced that the monthly Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) through tourism in India during the month of March 2018 were Rs.17, 294 crore as compared to Rs. 14, 667 crore in March 2017. The FEEs was Rs 12, 985 crore in March 2016. The growth rate in FEEs in rupee terms in March 2018 over March 2017 was 17.9 per cent, compared to the growth of 13.0 per cent in March 2017 over March 2016. Forex revenue from tourism touches $27.7 bn: Economic Survey
Helped by the initiatives taken by the government for the sector, the Foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) from tourism reported 20.8 per cent growth to USD 27.7 billion in 2017. The introduction of e- visa facility under three categories of tourist, medical and business for the citizens of 163 countries was one of the major innovative decisions made by the government, the survey noted.
