Tourists evacuated from Petra following flash floods
Flash floods caused by heavy rain across Jordan have killed eleven people and forced hundreds of tourists to seek higher ground in the kingdom’s ancient city of Petra, as per the government spokesperson. About two dozen people were injured and dozens more evacuated from their homes in several locations in the kingdom, as floodwaters rose rapidly. Operation of Kochi International Airport suspended until 18th August
Kochi international airport has suspended its operations for four days. It was informed by the airport authorities in a notification issued. The notification states, “Kochi airport operations temporarily suspended till 18th Saturday 2 PM since the inflow of water is still on a raising trend. We are working hard to drain out the storm water. All are requested to co-operate.” All the suspended services of Kochi will be operated from Thiruvananthapuram Airport. വെള്ളം കുതിച്ചെത്തി; കാട്ടാനയും മുട്ടുകുത്തി
അതിരപ്പിള്ളിയിൽ കുത്തൊഴുക്കുള്ള പുഴയിൽ കുടുങ്ങിയ കാട്ടാനയെ തുറന്നുവിട്ട വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ അളവ് നിയന്ത്രിച്ച് കാട്ടിലേക്ക് മടക്കി. ചാലക്കുടി പുഴയില്‍ വെള്ളം ഉയര്‍ന്നതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്നാണ് കാട്ടാന പുഴയില്‍ കുടുങ്ങിയത്. തിങ്കളാഴ്ച രാവിലെയാണ് കാട്ടാനയെ പുഴയില്‍ കണ്ടത്. മണിക്കൂറുകളോളം പുഴയില്‍ കുടുങ്ങിപ്പോയ ആനയെ പെരിങ്ങല്‍ക്കുത്ത് ഡാമിന്റെ മൂന്നു ഷട്ടറുകള്‍ താഴ്ത്തി വെള്ളം നിയന്ത്രിച്ചാണ് രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തിയത്. വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ ഒഴുക്ക് നിയന്ത്രണ വിധേയമായപ്പോൾ പടക്കം പൊട്ടിച്ചാണ് ആനയെ കാട്ടിലേക്ക് കയറ്റിയത്. പുഴയില്‍ കുടുങ്ങിയ കാട്ടാനയെ ചാര്‍പ്പയിലെ ആദിവാസികളാണ് ആദ്യം കാണുന്നത്. തുടര്‍ന്ന് വനംവകുപ്പിനെ വിവരമറിയിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. സംഭവ സ്ഥലത്ത് എത്തിയ വനംവകുപ്പ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും നാട്ടുകാരും ചേര്‍ന്നാണ് രക്ഷാപ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ നടത്തിയത്. ഡാമുകള്‍ തുറന്ന് വിട്ടതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് ചാലക്കുടി പുഴയില്‍ വെള്ളമുയര്‍ന്നതോടെയാണ് ആന കുടുങ്ങിയത്. പെരിങ്ങല്‍ക്കുത്ത്, ഷോളയാര്‍ ഡാമുകളില്‍നിന്ന് ഒഴുകിവരുന്ന വെള്ളമാണ് ഇവിടെ വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കത്തിനിടയാക്കുന്നത്. പെരിങ്ങല്‍ക്കുത്ത് അണക്കെട്ടിലെ ഷട്ടര്‍ താഴ്ത്തി വെള്ളം നിയന്ത്രിച്ചാണ് ആനയെ കരയില്‍ കയറ്റിയത്. ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരുടെ സമയോചിതമായ ഇടപെടലാണ് ആനയെ രക്ഷിച്ചത്.

സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് കാലവര്‍ഷക്കെടുതികളില്‍പ്പെട്ടവര്‍ക്കുള്ള ധനസഹായം അടിയന്തരമായി വിതരണം ചെയ്യണമെന്ന് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പിണറായി വിജയന്‍ ജില്ലാ കളക്ടര്‍മാരോട് നിര്‍ദേശിച്ചു. വിവിധ ജില്ലകളിലെ നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങളും രക്ഷാപ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളും വീഡിയോ കോണ്‍ഫറന്‍സിലൂടെ വിലയിരുത്തി സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി. മരണമടഞ്ഞവരുടെ കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് നല്കിവരുന്ന ധനസഹായത്തിന് പുറമേ വീടുകള്‍ പൂര്‍ണ്ണമായും നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടവര്‍ക്കും കൃഷിനാശം സംഭവിച്ചവര്‍ക്കും ഇപ്പോള്‍ നല്‍കുന്നതിനേക്കാള്‍ ഭേദപ്പെട്ട നഷ്ടപരിഹാരം നല്‍കും. ഇപ്പോള്‍ നല്കിവരുന്ന തുക അടിയന്തരമായി വീടുകള്‍ പുനര്‍നിര്‍മ്മിക്കാന്‍ പര്യാപ്തമല്ല. ധനസഹായം എത്രത്തോളം വര്‍ദ്ധിപ്പിച്ചു നല്‍കാമെന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് മന്ത്രിസഭായോഗം തീരുമാനിക്കുമെന്നും മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. രക്ഷാപ്രവര്‍ത്തനത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ക്യാമ്പുകളില്‍ താമസിക്കുന്നവരില്‍ ആരെങ്കിലും രോഗബാധിതരുണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ അവരെ കണ്ടെത്തി ആവശ്യമായ ചികിത്സ നല്‍കുകയും ആശുപത്രിയിലെത്തിക്കുകയും വേണമെന്ന് കളക്ടര്‍മാരോട് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി നിര്‍ദ്ദേശിച്ചു. ക്യാമ്പുകള്‍ വൃത്തിയായി സൂക്ഷിക്കുകയും രോഗബാധകള്‍ക്ക് സാധ്യത ഉണ്ടാകാതിരിക്കാന്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുകയും വേണം. ആവശ്യമുള്ള ഇടങ്ങളില്‍ പ്രാദേശിക ഡോക്ടര്‍മാര്‍ക്കു പുറമേ സഹായ സന്നദ്ധതയുള്ള ഡോക്ടര്‍മാരുടെ സേവനം തേടാനും കളക്ടര്‍മാര്‍ നടപടി സ്വീകരിക്കണം. ആദിവാസികള്‍ക്ക് നല്‍കി വരുന്ന സൗജന്യ റേഷന്‍ വീടുകളിലെത്തിക്കാന്‍ നടപടി ഉണ്ടാകണം. വൈദ്യുതി ലഭ്യതയുടെ കാര്യത്തില്‍ കെ.എസ്.ഇ.ബി ...
