Thai beach closes to allow recovery of the eco-system
Maya Beach – crowded with tourists and speed boats Maya Bay, on Phi Phi Leh island in the Andaman Sea of Thailand, which was the set for the Hollywood film ‘The Beach’, has closed indefinitely to give its ecosystem to recover. The beach has become famous after the shooting of the film acted by Leonardo DiCaprio. It is estimated that around 6,000 tourists visited the beach every day, traversing in speedboat from the nearby resort islands of PhiPhi and Phuket and Krabi on the mainland. Kochi to Kashmir with a mission
Five members of the renowned bikers group ‘Bullet Rovers Club’ of Kochi have set off a journey to Kashmir. The objective behind the 17 days long journey is to create awareness of conservation of the eco-system. In order to create awareness of sound pollution, the team would not sound horn during their trip. Starting from Kochi, the team will travel through Bangalore, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Jhansi, Delhi, Shimla, Narkanda, Spiti Valley, Chandrathal, Keylang, Sarchu, Ley, Panagong, Rohtang Pass, Manali and Chandigarh. India frames new draft eco-tourism policy
In order to have clear interpretations of the rules and regulations to follow in eco-tourism, the government is formulating a new policy to provide guidelines and norms for tourism in protected areas such as national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, conservation reserves and even territorial and revenue forests. A draft policy is framed by the environment ministry in consultation with the states and it is presently with the tourism ministry for their comments.
