For the quarter ended 31st December 2020, Sinclairs Hotels Ltd. has posted a Total Income of Rs 750.46 lakh as against Rs 1391.35 lakh for the corresponding period in the previous year.  The Profit after Tax for the quarter stood at Rs 125.51 lakh as against Rs 386.93 lakh for the corresponding quarter last year. Now, travellers can enjoy a toy train ride in Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR). The first ever evening daily Toy train service hauled by steam engine has been introduced to increase the tourist footfall in the destination. The Railways is expecting that the introduction of the new service will provide an opportunity to tourists having short stay at Siliguri area to experience the UNESCO World Heritage DHR toy train during second half of the day. With an aim to attract more tourists and promote tourist in the state, the West Bengal Tourism Department has recently sanctioned 89 trekking routes in north Bengal. “Measures will be taken to ensure safety of visitors opting to go for trekking,” said WBTD. Besides Darjeeling, the tourism department has discovered quite a few trekking routes in the Dooars region too. Lodges/small cottages are available along the routes for the trekkers. World renowned tourist destinations of eastern Himalayas, Dareeling and Sikkim awaits a positive festive season with large portion of its capacity already booked even four months before the beginning of season. To promote adventure tourism in the hills, the tourism department of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) is planning to develop Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong. Necessary steps will be taken to make these places more than just a tourist destination. Travellers to Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong will now have a host of adventurous activities at these destinations. GTA is now working to develop infrastructure in the hills and will soon be offering tourists with facilities like hill biking, paragliding, rafting and cycling. Darjeeling’s much-famed toy train will soon be taking tourists to the many tea gardens across the hill stations. It has entered into an agreement with the West Bengal Tourism for offering the new rides. The main objective of this initiative is to offer tourists with an immersive experience of Darjeeling’s tea gardens through toy train tours, in style as that of the Palace on Wheels of the Indian Railways. The state tourism department of West Bengal is planning to conduct a survey of existing trekking routes in north Bengal and explore new ones as part of a plan to encourage adventure tourism in the region. The department plans to engage firms which have experience in the field of trekking to conduct a comprehensive survey and to collect data on the trekking routes of the eastern Himalayan region. The firms would also have the task to explore prospective routes which can be promoted in due course among travelling enthusiast.
