Cruise tourism in India shows a positive swing
In the year 2017-18, a total of 139 Cruise ships carrying 1,62,660 passengers visited India at six major ports namely Mumbai Port, Mormugao Port, New Mangalore Port, Cochin Port, Chennai Port and Kolkata Port. Major ports of the country namely, Mumbai Port, Mormugao Port, New Mangalore Port, Cochin Port and Chennai Port have been developed to attract cruise ships with dedicated terminals and other related infrastructure for berthing of cruise vessels and embarking and disembarking of cruise passengers. First cruise ship of the season will arrive at Kochi on 15th October
Marking the new tourism season, the first cruise ship will arrive at Kochi port by 15th October. After Kochi, the luxury cruise ship MV Boudicca, carrying 522 tourists, will reach Vizhinjam the next day at around 8 AM. The tourists disembarking at the Vizhinjam port will be received by the tourism authorities in traditional style. After sightseeing in different tourism attractions of the region, the group will set off to Colombo at evening. The luxury ship belongs to Fred. India-Singapore talks are on for promoting cruise tourism
Nithin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport, Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, said that discussion are on with Singapore to develop cruise tourism at various locations in India. “We are keen on promoting cruise tourism on a mega-scale in the country.
