Direct air connectivity between Kochi and Europe takes off
The direct air connectivity between Kochi and Europe, a long-cherished demand of the NRIs and business community, came true on Friday with Air India commencing services in the London-Kochi sector. The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) welcomed the AI 1186 aircraft with a water salute as a mark of gratitude, according to a PTI report. In a statement, CIAL said as part of promoting direct connectivity to Europe, it has decided to waive the entire landing fee of airlines operating direct European services to Kochi. Israeli airline Arkia to launch direct flights to Kochi and Goa
Israeli airline Arkia Airlines Ltd. announce to introduce flights to Goa and Cochin in the state of Kerala. Arkia is joining El Al Israel Airlines Ltd., which operates direct flights to Mumbai, and Air India, which flies from Tel Aviv to Delhi on a shorter route passing above Saudi Arabia. The new flights will start operating from September 2019 using recently acquired Airbus 321neoLR airliners. Foreign tourists in big groups arrive in Kochi
The tourism sector of Kerala, which was almost stagnant after the floods, has been reviving slowly, but steadily. Tourists from around the world are flocking to Kerala, as the season has started. Chartered flights with 600 foreign tourists have landed in Kochi yesterday. Around 2000 tourists have already reached Kochi by ship last day. Master plan for Kochi airport to meet emergency situations
Kochi airport, the seventh busiest in the country, had been non-functional from August 14 to 28 owing to the devastating flood that shook the entire state between August 8 and 22. The airport authorities had first announced the shuttering of the facility till August 18, which was then extended to August 26 and further to August 29 as water levels continued to rise inundating the runway, the terminals as well as the large solar farm surrounding the airport.
