Travellers from Russia, China and Iran can now enter the Sultanate of Oman without a pre-entry tourist visa. The move is an extension of new visa policy introduced by Oman in March including the new online application process. By this Oman joined its neighbour UAE in relaxing the visa policies for travellers from Russia and China in the recent years. The Sultanate had already facilitated visa on arrival for travellers from 68 countries including USA, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom and the European Union’s Schengen area. Belarus As said by Belarusian parliament speaker Mikhail Myasnikovich, Belarus and China will be signing an agreement for a 30-day visa-free policy. The signing of this policy will be one of the major events of the Year of Tourism of Belarus in China, which will benefit in promoting the development of tourism. As part of the Year of Tourism, several events will be held in order to promote Belarus as a striking tourist destination. It was a happy news for the tourism industry, as the foreign tourist arrival exceeds to over 13.4 per cent more than that of the previous year statistics. Foreign tourist arrival for the period of January-March 2018 was 31.27 lakh, while January-March 2017 recorded only 28.45 lakh arrivals. China’s State Shipbuilding Corporation has started the construction of Snow Dragon 2, an ice-breaking ship dedicated to breaking the ice in Polar Regions. The is under construction at Jiangnan Shipyard in China. According to media reports, the ship is a combination of over 114 sections and 11 parts fused to form a single unit. The ship uses two-way technology to break ice simultaneously using both bow and stern. “The project is not simply purchasing the designs and drawings from foreign companies this time,” said Wu Gang, chief designer of Snow Dragon 2. China’s Tiangong-1 space station is all about to crash land to Earth’s orbit in the upcoming weekend. Tension exists as the location of the crash site is not yet predicted by scientists. Meanwhile, European Space Agency (ESA) states that the debris could hit the earth’s atmosphere 10 million times smaller than that of a lightning strike. Tiangong-1, known as the ‘Heavenly Palace’ has been sent to space orbit on 29th September 2011 by the Chinese space agency. “In the history of spaceflight, no casualties due to falling space debris have ever been confirmed,” said the space agency. The city tourism bureau of New York City & Company (NYC & Co) has published a new record of over 62.8 million tourist arrival in the state during 2017. The new arrival is 3.8 per cent more than that of 2016. The data states that over 79.1 per cent tourist were domestic tourists and the remaining are from foreign countries. Starting May 1, China will be imposing strict penalties for those with low scores on its so-called social credit system. Chinese citizens with low scores will be unable to travel via plane or train for up to an year, states a release by National Development and Reform Commission. The flow of winter travellers to Abu Dhabi marked the highest hotel occupancy rate in February. According to reports, over 100 hotels in the capital city marked full during February.
